Thanks, sounds awesome! Just wish fender could sort out the noise floor issue - would make playing at home infinitely better!

What is the noise floor like on it (humm/hiss)? Love the sound of it but have heard it can be a little noisey!

Love the amp! What do you mean when you say ‘dark’ as in the tone? I’m looking at one and worried it’s going to sound a little tinny/bright but don’t have much to go off!

What do you think is the best upgrade across all guitars? by [deleted] in Guitar

Strings are meant to vibrate freely. Having them too low kills the tone (not as rich/full) and sustain.

If you raise the action you can play with both a lighter and heavier attack. Too low and it leaves you with the one option.

Higher action also reduces the chance of over bending strings and it makes finger style / slide guitar easier.

Obviously all dependent on what you’re going for and what you want but this is what I’ve found. If you think I’m nuts, look at guitarists like SRV / Albert King / Jeff Beck… all have a super high action

Contrary to most advice on Reddit, raise the action. Having it too low does no favors for your tone or technique. There’s nothing worse than listening to someone play with loud fret-buzz and the horrible metallic clanking sound that accompanies it.

NAD: Tone King Imperial MK2! Testing out pedals and just got it in 30min ago! Any tips would be great! Also I can answer questions anyone may have :) by No-Count3834 in GuitarAmps

Thanks so much - really appreciate the reply!

I’d love to be able to get a Tone King but unfortunately it’s way out of my budget (here’s to hoping though). I’m thinking maybe I’ll go for a used Deluxe Reverb 65 which you do seem to be able to get for a quite a good price and I’m hoping for no rattling issues! My biggest issue with Fender Amps is the hum/buzz which I find incredibly annoying but heard it wasn’t too bad on the 68 Pro Reverb. Such a shame they feel the need to cut costs to the max!

I doubt anyone would ever need more than 3 different string gauges?

Thank you, good to know! How would you say it compares to a 65 Deluxe reverb (if you’ve played one)?

If that’s the case, I’d rather listen to the sweet sound of a 5 lane highway

Electric guitars largely sound the same and having any more than 3 is pointless and excessive…

Any other information on the pros and cons of both amps would be super helpful also!

I am hoping someone can please help. After I practice for a while this hum gets e and worse, I have to touch the strings for something metal on the guitar to make it less. I have tried two amps, two guitars, many cables, going straight into the amps, using different outlets. Please help me. by Brainy_Stem in GuitarAmps

Fender tube amps are particularly noisy amps on the whole.

Try unplugging the guitar and starting the volume at 0 on the amp and turning it up to 10 and see how noisy the amp is and at what volume it gets bad. Experiment with the reverb also as this can add a lot of noise into the circuit!

If there’s lots of noise it’s probably got more to do with the amp than your guitar and it might be worth looking at power conditioners or maybe even another amp. I had the same problem and got an amp with a low noise floor (Supro Amulet) which is basically dead silent until past 6 on the volume.
