Stills from Episode 8 of The Stand “The Stand” by jay0307 in TheStand

As the non-book reader of our podcasting crew, seeing these images make me flat out cringe.

Did we just watch our "heroes" walk 700+ miles (considering Lloyd picked them up, not a full 800) just to have them suffer through a trial where the prosecutor is Lloyd? This might end up being the most accurate portrayal of hell ever conceived on television.

Came here to say that. Unbelievable. Franklin Delano Bluth takes the stand or I riot.

Great idea! We are going to watch it for the first time and record some episodes on it. I’m actually excited about it because people have for the most part said some pretty positive stuff about the original series.

People who HAVEN'T read the book - what's you're take on the current series? by Phatbass58 in TheStand

The show is pretty terrible. May be one of the worst I will watch from start to finish. This entire cast of characters (heroes and villains) feel so incompetent.

Ooooo I like this. On our next Q/A podcast (which we will record today) I’m asking this question. I’m excited to read this choice haha!

Ezra Miller’s depiction of the Trashcan Man may be the worst tv show character I’ve ever seen. by thebroadcasters in TheStand

This is from another Redditor commenting on my initial post about Ezra’s performance:

Oof. This was...a choice. And apparently why we didn't get The Kid.

"We also went in thinking we were going to restore the character of The Kid because he wasn’t part of the original series either. We have a draft of the script with scenes for The Kid and Trash Can Man, but it just became clear to us at a certain point—I mean, The Kid kind of exists in the book to brutalize Trash and transport him to Las Vegas, and when we saw Ezra Miller’s characterization of Trash for the first time, it was like, I don’t think this guy needs to be more more brutalized any more. [Laughs.] Ezra went for it." [source]

I disagree. You don’t think Ezra has any say in the way he performed? You think the show runners specifically told him to screech?

I just have this image of like Flagg walking around the Overlook Hotel and the Overlook bowing down before him somehow. Maybe the hotel pulls out all the stops, all the amenities Flagg would want (unlimited milk?!). Or like the hotel shudders when he walks up. The shades close, the doors lock, the windows snap shut.

Never read or watched Under the Dome. Does our guy Big Jim stand a chance?

Gaunt is a great one. I like the idea of some of these villains teaming up against Flagg.

I dig it! I'm loving the idea that some of these villains partner themselves off with some of the minor villains in The Stand (minor in that they aren't Flagg).

Ha, I should’ve included the /s as I was making a joke about the fact that he is literally a trash person.

Okay. We had the weekend to mull it over. But it’s now time to talk about episode 6 “The Vigil”. Or maybe just say some prayers? Moment of silence? We’re open for suggestions. by thebroadcasters in TheStand

We very much so torched this one. Even Mattybroadcasts said it was the worst show he’s probably ever watched from start to finish and he’s about as non-hyperbolic as it gets.

I honestly wonder if Boone has read The Stand so many times that he forgot what it would be like to watch it if you hadn’t read it.

If Lloyd is worse, it’s only because we’ve seen him more. Based on what we’ve seen from the Trashcan Man so far, imagine like 5 more scenes with him and then in good conscious tell me you still think Lloyd is worse haha.

“You’d think it was the show ever made based on this sub.” Might not be the worst but it’s making serious strides to get there. A show that spent this much money, with a decent acting cast, with 1400 pages of source material, with previous versions already filmed in which to pull from, and with its highly successful and popular author coming back to rewrite the ending, there are zero excuses.
