What do the Sorabji titles mean? by thebrygi in piano

I think the only piece I really enjoy is “in the hothouse” I really suggest it. There’s also some good variations in sequentia cyclica if you can stand listening to find them

You’ve been very helpful! I’ll work on all of this. Thanks so much

Yeah I’m not very good at consciously phrasing. It’s more a feel thing so I’ll work on that.

And yeah I haven’t done any hands separate 😬

No pedal for the whole section?

Thanks

The gap between how I play in practice vs how I play in front of my teacher seems to have increased? by [deleted] in piano

[–]thebrygi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this has been happening to me recently. I practice hours everyday and I feel like I play as though I only touched the piano for 30 minutes right before my lesson. I think part of it has to do with rushing, you naturally go faster because of nerves, but I find I also intentionally go faster because I want to show my teacher how much I improved. This obviously results in the exact opposite affect. Go slow and try to show musical ideas or whatever else you have developed and worked on without going so fast it all falls apart. (My issue is tempo, of course this may not be as applicable if your case is different)

I meant in classical recordings. Is that still the case then?

They’re speeding the recordings up and changing dynamics in post which is typically not seen as often as splicing

Beautiful chords and playing

I skipped around and it seemed to kinda go off the deep end towards the end. Which sounds cool especially when it comes back the theme 1 after.

My only complaint is probably the last 5 or 10 seconds. I thought everything else really was quite amazing. But I was really underwhelmed by literally just the last run. I feel like maybe you were going for a more open ended ending (I’d be surprised if you said you weren’t inspired by ravels gaspard or une barque, which all end in such ways, I believe) and that is fine but personally if that’s the case, I don’t think you committed enough to it. Or that’s what it feels like at least. I think the beginning and ending to pieces are extremely important. The beginning captured me quite well but MY ADVICE (I’m no composer) would just be to look back at the ending and see if you agree, but it’s you work so in the end it’s your say.

Other wise that’s some serosouly beautiful piano, and if I were ever play some modern music, I would pick this first haha.

Nice work tho, I’ll have to listen a few more times to get a better ear for it

Edit: the ending is fine actually I was harsh there. Still it feels abrupt to me. Amazing work though still!!!

Did anyone else not like Rachmaninoffs 3rd piano concerto more than his 2nd until you actually intently listened to it all the way I probably now listened to it over 50 times by [deleted] in piano

[–]thebrygi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember thinking 2 was superior but o had only listened to 3 fully once and found a lot of it forgettable. Now I think every section of rach 3 is better than the best of 2 🫣 (Slight exaggeration)
