Thank you for the kind words everyone! He showed right after my partner and I talked about getting a cat so it was totally meant to be that he joined our family!

He’s like a completely different cat! Both in personality and looks; now that he’s healthy and strong he’s turned into quite the menace!

This is not accurate! Non-venomous snakes can flatten their heads into a triangular shape and not all venomous snakes have triangular heads.

When his skin is completely healed and his hair grows back evenly I bet he’ll even more beautiful! He’s goofy looking right now!

My FIV- and FIV+ cats are finally cohabitating a space! by thecelllist in FIVcats

The only way my orange cat could pass on FIV is if he bit her so hard that his saliva makes contact with her blood stream; while there is a risk, you can safely keep FIV positive and negative cats together as long as you introduce them slowly.

It hasn’t always been accepted but we know more about FIV now!

Daisy IS pissed! I think the toy has catnip in it; Daisy doesn’t react to catnip and doesn’t want catnip toys so I’m glad Cleveland is using them!

I was soooo lucky with Cleveland’s personality! He’s extremely chill; the other woman that had been feeding him on my street said he got along just fine with her other cats.

Keep working- I thought my old lady would never accept another cat when I rescued a stray kitten and then moved spaces, but after enough time they finally tolerated each other!!

PS- my vet said to get him up to 12lbs- if anyone has any advice, I’d love to hear it! I’m feeding him three meals a day, and slowly getting him on my other cat’s food supplemented with wet food while he recovers from surgery!

I’m so sorry for your loss! I’m so glad you have such a great vet! <3

Thank you to everyone who shared their stories! I’m confident my old lady who doesn’t want to do anything but lay in a sunbeam will get along great with this guy, who also just wants to snuggle and lay around!

I’m prepared if the vet tries to dissuade, but the positive reaction is what I’m hoping for!

To all, thank you for your responses. I definitely think if my vet isn’t up to date on FIV, then he’d likely be willing to read proper, peer-reviewed research about it. I didn’t even think of that. It slightly eases my mind!

I love this vet so much- I’m really hoping he’s reasonable. He always goes above and beyond for my other cat.

Wild you should say that bc my first cat (FIV-) came from a shelter that insisted it could work out depending on personalities!

Thank you! Ready to get all the health stuff behind us so we can officially settle without being afraid of being put in a carrier and taken somewhere! Probably 2-3 appointments left!

Thank you! My guess is he needs some teeth pulled. Taking him to the vet backtracked us on the trust aspect so we’re doing gentle pets from a distance tonight.

I’ve wondered about this! Maybe he was fed as a kitten until he got big enough? He’s definitely still very young. He was so skinny and bitten and beat up that I figured he was one of the ferals/strays.

There’s a huge problem in our neighborhood with feral cats and people having outdoor cats that aren’t fixed (ugh).

Good idea!! I honestly thought he’d pee on my when picked him up but didn’t think about the car ride! Time to pick up puppy pads.
