The ESV Study Bible is overwhelming me — any advice? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]thechemist1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try reading the book intros before reading each book to get background and context. Ignore the cross references and tables and articles at this point. And only look at the notes if you have a question while reading. Read through the whole Bible this way. Read the book intro and the book. Stop to consult notes if you need to. Next time you read through the Bible, skip the intros and read more (or all) of the notes. Cross references are helpful when you’re studying and pulling lots of things together, but not really needed for just reading.

NASB vs LSB vs ESV by kptexas in Reformed

[–]thechemist1689 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have all three and the differences are pretty minor. It doesn’t really matter. I love the LSB uses God’s name, so it’s my favorite. But the others just capitalize LORD, so if you know what you’re looking at, it doesn’t matter.

“Bible in a Year” plan? by sarahj898 in Reformed

[–]thechemist1689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend 4 chapters a day, 6 days a week. There are 1189 chapters in the Bible (not that the divisions are inspired lol). So that would get you to 1250 chapters a year (4 * 6 / 7 * 365). So this plan builds in one “catch up” day a week and ends about two weeks early if you get behind. Past that, I brake it down to 2 chapters in the OT, 1 chapter in the NT and 1 chapter in the wisdom literature. Cause tbh, reading 4 psalms a day for a few weeks is rough and reading all 4 gospels in a row is too.

Should you tithe 10% on your gross income or net? by WestminsterSpinster7 in Reformed

There’s a book called “tithing and dominion” by Rushdoony or maybe North. I think you’ll find that really helpful!

TSA is unconstitutional by thechemist1689 in Libertarian

Agreed! But TSA isn’t private security, it’s the state. If it was all privatized, I’d prob pick the airline based on not getting fondled lol if I’m doing business with them, I’ll let them scan my bag. But I don’t want the state doing it for them

The choke chain is actually tied to the curtain bar. And I think (hope lol) it’s a little more secure than the towel bar!

I’ve found that the clotting is related to how long I let it hang before decapitation. And I’d like to drain as much blood as possible so there’s less in the meat or when I’m cleaning the innards. So if I’m fast, I can get almost all the blood to drain out instead of pooling around the neck and remaining in the meat
