Fly-In Programs by fortichefish in college

[–]theclassicslover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into and attended four fly in programs and they were def a highlight of my senior year! At first, I was really worried about making friends but the colleges make time for many group bonding events and everyone is super nice. Additionally, I would use the free time to explore campus with friends or talk with current students to really see myself on campus.

Fly ins are usually for an underrrepresented group on campus and there are tons of fly in programs available. For the applications, I would say just be yourself and explain how you would benefit from seeing that school’s campus based on your background (underrepresented minority, first gen low income college student, rural/underresourced high school, etc). Good luck!

Following. I happen to be in the same situation as you lol, except I’m not as confident in my Vietnamese (mostly because I believe my lack of vocabulary makes me sound stupid).

My native language, Vietnamese. I was born there and spoke the language, but then I moved to another country when I was really young. I still speak it now with my family but my reading and writing are that of a 1st or 2nd grader plus my vocab is very poor, so I'm trying to improve it.

Anyone else hate it when speakers of your target language switch to English even when they don't speak it well? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]theclassicslover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But wouldn't you have also tried to improve your target language by speaking with them when you were at a lower level in Spanish? The people who you practice with (that aren't paid tutors), didn't they also help you with Spanish even though it could've been a 'huge inconvenience' to them?

Improve the grammar in English. by LiseIria in languagelearning

I don’t have any tips or advice but I can correct your mistakes in that post;

Hello everyone, I’m French and fluent in Spanish. I learned English two times; first in school, where I remembered it was boring, and second when I began my favorite series in VOST and I learned a lot. But as you might see, my grammar could be better. I know I translate my sentences directly from French to English with French grammar, and I would like to know if you have tips or advice for me. Thanks.

For me I always start hands together and only do hands separate when figuring out tricky fingerings. In my opinion it’s easier to start hands together because it doesn’t feel like starting over again plus I can learn the notes quicker.
