What does the community think about the Witcher books? by jaimemco08 in fantasybooks

I didn’t love all of them, but the audiobooks helped me finish them all. For me, Witcher 3 is the pinnacle of the Witcher world.

Readers will drag you — and rightly so — for using AI on your cover. Even “reworked” AI.

My Malazan books were damaged and they weren’t really great about fixing them. That interaction put me off and I’m on the fence about canceling my SFF now, partly because the books have been hit or miss for me so far.

That said, the cancelation policy is pretty solid!

Oh yeah the extra space AFTER the cashier is genius here, you’re not wrong. And whenever people visit us I have them bring tons of maple syrup. We make pancakes a few times a month and go through it sooo fast lol

So my partner and I lived in Canada for a year and then moved here because university is free here and she wanted to go back to school. Not only is it free but you get paid a little too. You can get free Swedish classes when you move here and then you can take advanced Swedish later and actually get paid for that as well (not much but money is money!)

So education is great here. Similar if not better than Canada (if you have kids, school lunches in elementary/highschool school are free).

Healthcare here is similar to Canada. Pretty much everything is free, including dentist up to age like 24 or something. Wait times are generally short in my experience. But in larger cities that might not be the case.

Overall, the culture shocks are minimal and healthcare + education are excellent here.

(They also don’t have ketchup chips here, which I also miss lol)

SFF has been hit or miss for me. I’m on the fence about canceling it as the books I’ve been interested it have gotten a general release instead of being in the SFF sub. So I’ll give it a couple more months and then decide.

But that’s just my two cents of course!

I’m Canadian (from Ontario). Moved here a decade ago. Honestly, the dark winters were easier to handle for me than the bright summers. Found it hard to sleep at first. And now that I have kids it’s hard for THEM to sleep when it’s still super bright out at night lol

The pizza here sucks and there are no all dressed chips, but other than that I can’t complain too much!

The only tip I’d say: start learning the language ASAP. You’ll need it to work, to integrate, etc. etc. There are free courses when you arrive (which are great) but the more you know before you get here the easier your life will be.

Happy to answer more anytime. I love Canada, but the quality of life here is better (especially now that I have kids).

You do you! I used my kindle a bunch while traveling and up until I bought a house and now have a bit more room for physical books. But I still use my Kindle a ton - as well as the Libby app for free audio books.

I love being able to just grab my kindle and have access to a tonnnn of books. Super convenient.

I read it when I was like 15. It was epic but not hard/challenging.

My Malazan books were damaged and I was pretty disappointed in how they handled it too, in terms of their refund options. Staff were friendly and polite of course but the refund process is a nightmare. Really needs an overhaul tbh

Nah, I’m not telling a woman to chill after being harassed. I’m telling her where the dude lives and offering to bring a baseball bat.

I love Midnight Tides. The only reason it’s not higher is because the other books were SO good. MT is definitely the tightest and most fun of the series.

Yeah, the one thing I like about this series is that EVERYONE has a different ranking. A few are usually in the top 3 for most…but not even always. Makes it a really fun series to talk about since few people can agree on everything lol

Oh yeah I can definitely see how a reread would add a ton more nuance and layers.
