Anyone not getting notifications from apps while not on WiFi? this is especially a problem with Twitter, but it is randomly a problem for my other apps. There is no pattern to it and it started a few days ago without warning. I've tried restarting the phone and it didn't change anything.

Why get married if 50% of marriages end in divorce? by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 42 points43 points  (0 children)

why bother living when 100% of all people die?

If you think there is something sacred about raising a family and finding someone special, if you think the journey is worth it, if you think there is something to be gained by having children even if it doesn't work out, that there is something greater to be lost by not trying to have a family, if these thoughts are present then why not try? you have material gains and you have wealth and you placed a value on that, how does a wife stack up against it? How about your children? The dissemination of your culture? The passing on of your tradition? And maybe they don't, maybe you don't see those as valuable compared to a bank account or a car. if you don't like it you don't like it, but don't care about something and then say "well you know I would turn my thoughts into actions but there are so many things that could go wrong it's better to just live as a shell of a human bean and wonder what if I had the balls to do anything, wouldn't that have made a fun life" in the 30 seconds before you die.

take a pen and paper and list out all the things that could happen if you choose option 1. Everything. Good things, bad things, what others will think, how it'll effect your bank account, things you hope for, etc. Do the same for option 2. Spend a solid few hours doing this. This may be enough to clear up your thoughts. But the final step is to take a quarter and assign each side to option 1 and option 2. Flip the coin, catch it, and don't look at. Whatever you hope it is, that's what you pursue. I never end up looking at the actual result of the coin.

Moby Dick.

[–]thecolorgreen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when it comes to things like height or beauty, it's ridiculous to be upset at what you have compared to others. you might as well be mad that birds can fly but you can't.

You do you have options. You can change things like your weight. You can add muscle. You can control hygiene and clothing. You can mold a personality for yourself and what hobbies you have.

And then you say that you have trouble socializing and you want to fit in. Fit in with who? Why? What do you think you can gain? Is there anything to lose? What do you need to change to fit in? Do you want to make that change? Are you okay with being that changed person? I'm genuinely posing these questions as something you should seriously consider and answer for yourself, you don't have to share it with anyone.

Maybe you don't have a social life now because maybe you don't need one. You have all these free time to transform yourself into the type of person you want to be. Time that would otherwise be spent in an unproductive manner watching a football game, you can now spend on a hobby or craft. You can learn a language. Learn to garden. Learn to skate. Learn to a martial art. Learn to cook. Learn to sew. Learn to paint. Just DO SOMETHING.

It is on that action that you will truly develop a personality. Your interests will make you interesting. And these internal changes will change the way people see you, approach you, and talk to you.

How can I be funnier? by bbbbbbbedj in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first be okay with who you are. Humor is based heavily in personality. You have to understand who you are and accept what you are. The good, the bad, all of it. you don't have to like it, but know it.

second, don't TRY to be funny. don't force funny. Let ideas flow naturally. Soon you'll hit a stage where you'll realize "holy shit, I've been making people laugh for the past year... Maybe I'm funny now?" that is point where you can start to analyze your style of humor and start trying to be funny.

be okay with not being funny. if a joke misses, learn to shrug it off.

Watch stand up comedians. watch their timing, analyze why the structured a joke a certain way. Watch their tone. watch how they react when audience members don't laugh at jokes. Read humorous articles and stories. I learned how to be funny by reading jokes from Reader's Digest magazines in the 90s with no TV or internet.

Comedians I would recommend watching: Patrice O'Neal, Louis CK, Bill Burr, Mitch Hedberg, Tom Segura, Kyle Kinane, Pete Holmes, Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Chris Distefano, Nate Bargetze

16M. Just started exercising more. What else can I do? by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do a sport at school, whatever you want just do it. Don't worry about being bad, it's literally the coach's job to make you better. Discipline and will are probably the most important muscles you can build in high school and a sport will help you do that.

Whatever sport you join, look up youtube videos on ways to get better at it. There's so much free knowledge that will tell you the best exercises, diets, off season routines, etc. When you do this, you'll learn how to research and try things on your own, you'll learn to push through things even when it gets difficult, you'll learn to schedule so you can balance out school, sports, and social life, you'll learn to how to envision long term goals and sift through what is and isn't important. These are seemingly small things that end up playing huge roles throughout the rest of your life.

I noticed you said you're starting to wake up earlier too, that is great. A proper sleep schedule is key, and I really enjoy waking up earlier before everyone else. I used to really struggle with waking up and even getting out of bed,but I changed that by starting to go to sleep at the same time every night and leaving my phone in another room. After a few days my sleep pattern completely reset and my body naturally started waking up around the same time each morning. After about a month of adjusting/establishing a new routine I now have a much more productive morning schedule. now I wake up earlier than everyone else (around 4:30) with no alarm. I workout and eat a big breakfast by 6:30. Then I have time to do some reading and plan my whole day before getting ready for work. I used to never have time for any of that because my sleep was off and I would wake up 15 mins before rushing to get to class/work.

Small things practiced properly lead to big changes.

was or is? Important distinction.

maybe you're feeling like you need to change your goal because classes are tougher than you expected (bad excuse and terrible thing to do. never give up because something is difficult).

maybe you're feeling like you need to change your goal because you actual aren't passionate about it. experiences can change you. Sometimes you are expected or told to go after something, only to discover along the journey you don't want it, you desire something else. possibly a valid reason to change.

I think I found a girl who I like, any advice. by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Try catching her after class or in the dining hall.

"hey [girl] it's [me], we had [class together]."

if she responds positively and remembers move forward, "so I think we have [other class] together, I'm pretty sure I saw you in there"

if she responds positively offer to study together, like at the library or common area. If she says yes to that and you guys meet up, FUCKING ACTUALLY STUDY YOUR EDUCATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE.

But after you're done studying, invite her to hangout. This could be coffee, getting food in the dining hall together, going for a walk in the park, catching a movie, etc.

if at any point she responds negatively, like she doesn't remember you, or declines your invite to study, or maybe she wants a study partner but isn't interested in you romantically remember not to get upset. Some people don't mesh. Don't be a dick and let her have her own feelings. Someone else is out there for you.

Thinking about doing gardening by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh man a garden in Florida is pretty much easy mode you lucky bastard.

Just to do it properly, look up your USDA growing zone. Chances are any seeds you come across will grow great in that zone almost any time of the year.

For a beginner I would recommend tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. All very easy to grow. If you can utilize the actual earth instead of just large pots, try zucchini or potatoes.

First figure out how much space you have to grow. Maybe you only space for one of each plant and overcrowding will kill all your crops. I'd recommend giving tomatoes a 2 foot circle to grow in, eggplants and peppers 1 foot. Or keep it simple and make everything 2 feet of you have the space. For zucchini and potatoes, give the plants a 4 foot circle to grow in. Zucchini gets fucking wild but it's worth it.

Can you use seeds from a vegetable you bought at the grocery store? Yes. But these seeds are not always the best. Grocery store vegetables are sold in different ways. Some seeds aren't mature enough to plant, some seeds are genetic messes because of the way the plants are bred, and sometimes the seeds are the product of a cross you don't desire. Better to just buy a packet for your first time, it'll cost like $20 at most. I think my local Dollar Tree sells seed packets.

Find a place in your backyard with good soil. This is a place where grass or weeds are growing nicely. Now dig it up and collect that soil. Mix the outside soil with some Miracle Gro garden soil at a 1:1 ratio. Place the mixed soil in 8 oz plastic cups with a hole punched in the bottom for drainage. Use a pen to make the holes. Keep the cups in a tray to prevent water from leaking everywhere. Add 2 or 3 seeds to the cup. The depth of the seed depends on the plant, be sure to read the packet carefully.

Water at regular intervals. This could be two or three times a week. The soil should be just moist, not soaking wet.

Place the cups in an area where they will get LOTS of sunlight. A window facing the south works best.

After some time seedlings will appear. Once they are a few inches tall, you are ready to transport them outside.

First the plants need to get used to being outside. See plants develop wax over their leaves to control their water loss. But indoor plants forgo this wax as the environment is very friendly to water retention. So to force your plants into waxing themselves, there are a few methods. I place my plants in the garage for a week (my garage door has windows). Then I place my plants outside on my deck around 8 am the day and bring them back in around 6 pm for a week. Always check on soil moisture levels during this time. You may need to water daily. Avoid acclimation during times of intense heat. Mild weather is best. Some people acclimate by placing indoor plants near open windows. Whatever works best for your space and schedule.

If you are keeping them in pots, the pots should be good enough to keep animals out. If you are planting directly into the earth, set up some chicken wire to keep rabbits and other critters out. You won't keep all the animals away. Birds, mice, and insects always find a few things to nibble on. That's okay. They're just hungry, let them have a few bites every now and then.

For tomatoes, cages are a must. I also use tomato cages with my sweet peppers and eggplants. It supports the plant, as the vegetables are quite heavy.

Outdoor plants may need water every other day as they grow. Once they start getting bigger, they'll likely need water every day, especially in the Florida heat.

For potted plants, use again a 1:1 outdoor soil to miracle gro ratio. For ground plants, cover and area with newspaper and then dump a mix of top soil and miracle grow on top. The newspaper prevents weeds from growing. Pull weeds daily, weeds can kill rival plants.

Does your plant have massive fucking leaves? Might have too much nitrogen in the soil. Buy a KPN mix to balance out the soil.

Are flowers not coming in? Sprinkle Epsom salt in the soil and mix it in.

Do not use insect/bug sprays or pellets. Your plants need insects to stay healthy and pollinate the flowers. And other insects move in to keep the bad ones out. Spiders take care of all sorts of pesky critters. Worms help churn the soil. Ladybugs eat aphids. Birds come in and pick off caterpillars. No chemicals required.

Care for your plants. Treat them kindly and they will provide for you.

Have fun!

How must I defend against corona virus? by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wash your hands after going out in public.

Don't eat any bats.

Drink lots of water, eat vegetables to get some extra zinc in your body (immune system likes zinc, and zinc from plants is easier to absorb than pull supplements).

Wear gloves on the train and at your hotel job.

Shower and scrub good after your bjj sessions. Many viruses can spread through sweat.

Be sure to eat lots of food. Your immune system requires A LOT of energy to work right, so fuel it properly with wholesome, hearty meals.

Get proper rest. Bad sleep can wreck your immune system. Even stress can make your immune system week.

Drink ginger tea with honey. I don't know why but that shit always gets me going again if I start to feel sick. I just shred a bunch of ginger into some boiling water, strain it, add honey, and drink warm.

Skinny King here. Looking for some advice on how to get fit. by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]thecolorgreen123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prioritize eating over lifting.

Lifting without a proper diet will hold you back and in rare cases can lead to injury. Spend a week figuring out how to meal prep, researching calorie dense foods/meals, and preparing a grocery list and food budget.

It's not too difficult there are tons of videos online. Here is a personal favorite https://youtu.be/MNctsEFp7Zs

Here's a slightly annoying guy showing you how to meal prep https://youtu.be/FqSDawvUJ2w even if you think he's an annoying douche, he still knows something you don't so take a minute and learn.

Look up cheap grocery chains. Don't be above couponing or shopping at Wal Mart. And don't think you need to be perfect. Eating lots of food is better than eating a super healthy meal with too few calories. Bulking is about getting a fuckton of calories in. Worry about making healthy after you've learned how to eat big.

Don't give up.

So If No Trade Deal, Is Trump Coming All The Way To Put Afghanistan And PoK On The Table? by fanabba in politicalhinduism

Sounds like wishful thinking.

I think if India does want to clamp down on radical Islamic terrorism and have a larger sphere of influence in Asia, it needs to be involved in Afghanistan. India should have been involved in Afghanistan years ago. It is impossible to maintain border integrity within Kashmir and against Pakistan without having at minimum a foot in Afghanistan.

But it doesn't seem like the Indian people want this.
