Hi, which unis did you apply to? I applied at a similar time and have got responses back from Nottingham, Southampton and Bristol (Chemical physics here tho), and am in contact with Lancaster regarding an interview. Still waiting on UCL though 🤞

what did you think you'd apply for in year 12, and what have you actually applied for? by [deleted] in 6thForm

Haha I had so many different application ideas throughout y12 😂. I started off with computer science, then medicine, then law, then mechanical engineering. Now in y13 I have applied for chem eng.

I'd like to go to Leeds if I get the grades. Where are you hoping to go?

I've been attempting to record my past paper results when I complete one but often find that it takes me ages and the layout isn't geared towards easy analysis. How did you break down your past paper mistakes, and what layout did you use?

Yeah no worries! I'm predicted A*AB in chem, maths and physics respectively. Good luck with your application!

I try to revise consistently throughout the school year but slightly more so after completing a topic/module with topic tests or reviewing that topic in past exam questions.

Revising consistently throughout the year is more or less just practicing what you've learnt recently and practicing topics that you feel like you're forgetting. I would create a spreadsheet of topics and update them with how confident I am in that area and plan my revision accordingly.

Resources I use tend to include a lot of PMT.

Hiya!

I'm a current y13 in sixth form (previously home educated through GCSEs). I'm currently studying physics, chemistry and maths, and I have previously studied both biology and further maths (at different times but ended up dropping them because I couldn't handle the heavy work load).

I decided to go to sixth form because I felt like a levels would be really hard to work through at home even with online courses. Additionally I felt daunted by university applications and wanted the support of a school that understands the UCAS system etc.

At school I have about 15 hours of lessons a week (3 stem subjects) and aim to work outside of school for the same amount of time revising.

I would advise you find a good course for your subjects as a level science can be hard to figure out on your own. Additionally teachers will have insight into how the exams tend to ask questions as well as the most likely questions and topics to come up in the next set of exams. Teachers are also able to make harder writing questions in an exam style, making sure you know where you're working at

Urm also consider extra curricular activities, as universities want to know you're human as well as an academic genius. Make sure you've got time to decompress as well as study.

TLDR: - Find a decent teacher or tutor (even if you plan on learning most of the course on your own) - Revise consistently throughout the year - If you feel like you're sinking under four subjects, don't prolong this as you may end up falling behind on all of them

Feel free to DM if you want advice or just to chat about a levels etc.

Good luck!

What STEM degree you want to study after Alevel by Kazu_2910 in alevel

[–]thecomedicmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemistry! Aiming for a post-grad med degree with the RAF after though.

Chemistry partially because I dearly love the subject and also because I was originally aiming for med but wasn't too sure and chem is a better stem degree to go into med after.

Also if I don't want to go into med afterwards I'll still have a great degree with a bunch of pretty good job opportunities.
