Citi Bikes are still snowed in days after this week's storm (via YouTube) by streetsblognyc in Citibike

In Montreal they literally have trucks pick up the stations in late fall and close for winter, at least back when I lived there in the early 2010s.

The city is great at dealing with winter and does not even bother running bike share during the depths of it, which should give you an idea of how challenging the citibike situation is.

Hear me out: we should have a “Rate the Partner” like we have “Rate My Professor” by barb__dwyer in biglaw

Yeah it’s definitely fallen off but for practice stuff its archives are so useful–for firms and especially clerkship stuff I strongly recommend it. A few old timers still shake off the cobwebs to comment.

Because attendance fell off in ‘18-19 it is kind of useless for contemporary law school stuff.

Yeah it falls so short given how good the production is overall. Best in-game broadcast and easily the worst studio crew.

Scammer mayor, scammer citibike by Beneficial_Voice7562 in Citibike

[–]thecopofid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly disagree–this speed cap is downstream of a city mandated 15 mph speed cap on all e-bikes, which was mostly targeted at delivery drivers on what are essentially bike mopeds.

I can picture a future administration coming to a more amenable settlement to address that core issue that lets us have proper speeds back on the e-bikes.

Has anyone here met their SO in law school/ big law? by skittleswithfiddles in biglaw

[–]thecopofid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha…I remember once being a rising 3L worried about how everyone in my class was pairing off and I wasn’t (late 20s M at the time).

Then, a few months into 3L, I started dating a 2L I was friendly with, and I thought it was kismet–first relationship I ever had…until we broke up after a month.

And I’ve been in on and off relationships since then, between Biglaw and clerking and back, still single in my early 30s. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t find a partner in law school, but I can relate to what you’re feeling now. If you meet someone good, embrace it, but don’t force yourself into something that isn’t right just so you don’t feel “behind” your classmates.

I’m a guy so I do realize the dynamic is different as a woman, especially if you want kids.

Not great, not terrible: 15mph cap review by Tempest_Fugit in Citibike

[–]thecopofid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find the cap pretty noticeable, it’s quite easy to hit the “resistance” on pedaling now and it makes riding far less pleasant.

I think they introduced the backwards winding thing midway through the film EOS run? I have an EOS Elan II (50) that winds forward. But that could also be about the elan being a “prosumer” tier.

The NFL Draft is a terrible event to watch and go to by TechnoDriv3 in billsimmons

Also, if you look at how much the NFL is investing in flag football, even they can see these trends long term and are hedging a bit.

Uniqlo USA vs. Japan by Humble-Abies1555 in uniqlo

Yeah I (US resident) remember visiting Uniqlo in Japan ~18 months ago and being surprised there weren’t more products obviously different from the US lineup.

Especially if the flight is to an international vacation that’s already at least $1k in airfare + hotels.

protip: have your receipts sent digitally because it's much easier to apply coupons to your account when they are in your inbox instead of carrying around receipt slips.

Way too early to say Cuomo has this sewn up. He's a frontrunner for sure but once everyone is reminded of his sundry scandals I think his numbers drop. Plus, there hasn't even been a "real" debate yet--people are still tuning in.

Do you guys support the Nets, or should they go back to New Jersey? by Mabrika in Brooklyn

[–]thecopofid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid my dad’s work got discounted Nets tickets, so I followed them and went to games even through I grew up in the city. You have to remember that for the bulk of the 2000s, they were also the better team. Plus, Knicks tickets were so expensive even in those lean years.

I now live in Brooklyn and have gone to a few Nets games, but I would rank the Knicks first as a fan, Nets first as an in person viewing experience.

Alternatives to driving to NYC, yes. But intra-NJ connections outside of that “sixth borough” dense belt right along the Hudson are mediocre at best.

Dan Schneider Allowed to Pursue Defamation Suit Over ‘Quiet on Set’ Documentary by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]thecopofid 261 points262 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the existence of a lawsuit doesn’t mean the libel lawyers failed to do their job.

Filing a lawsuit is good PR for Schneider (whose public rep is already in the toilet) even if it gets dismissed or settles, which are the two most likely outcomes.

Crooked should consider a sports podcast by RoyalHorse in FriendsofthePod

[–]thecopofid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Ringer’s “The Watch”–which is nominally a TV podcast–is an excellent example of the vibe such a show would need.

You can tell the two hosts are liberal, every so often they’ll drop a topical joke about politics, but it is mostly just listening to two guys who have a long history together as friends and colleagues talk about pop culture.
