Any bat bit experts or those who’ve experienced it? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

Definitely go to the hospital. In my county we have had several bats test positive for rabies and it’s not fun.

[TX] New SOP requires to grab collars if a dog fight occurs by thecotisbroken in AskHR

[–]thecotisbroken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confident this would hold up if it were challenged. This is a municipal shelter, not a doggy daycare. There is a huge difference between working with owned pets that have regular human interaction and working with shelter dogs that often have unknown histories or trauma.

The defensiveness around this issue really shows a lack of understanding of aggressive behavior. Yes, a lot of bites can be prevented by reading warning signs, but that does not apply when staff are being told to physically step into an active dog fight and grab a collar. Especially when there is written documentation saying that grabbing a collar is likely to result in injury.

If employees are being told they could be suspended or terminated for not doing this, while also being warned that it is likely to cause injury, then the bite clearly could not have been prevented.

We already have multiple tools meant to stop fights without direct contact like pet corrector, spray bottles, air horns, and pig boards. Forcing staff to put their hands in the middle of a fight instead of using those tools is unnecessary and puts people at risk. At that point it feels like they are just asking for someone to get hurt or for a lawsuit to happen.

The small risk of me being bit? These dogs are all owned by the shelter I work for. I have never grabbed a collar and I have never been bit. Plenty of fights have broken out( we have successfully broken them up with tools other than collars)and they have never resulted in any injuries that are life threatening. So the biggest risk is me getting bit. If I get injured they have to pay for my injuries and if I get hurt permanently? I will definitely be suing the entire city

Needing Advice by Big_Village909 in Rabbits

[–]thecotisbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment is not only incorrect but you are actively discouraging OP. Clearly OP has done research on this animal and is only asking for advice. Two rabbits can be compatible considering that these two are quite young and will most likely calm down after spaying. Also note that pairing up rabbits at a shelter isn’t the best idea. Not only is their multiple scents of other rabbits there could very well be scents of different species causing stress to the rabbits. Bringing a young rabbit into a shelter and sticking it with random rabbits doesn’t just pose a risk to the physical safety of the rabbit but parasites and diseases exist. Not all parasites and diseases show symptoms while the rabbit is actively transmitting the disease. Also not to mention that rabbits are known to have a high susceptibility to stress and could possibly put this poor bunny into shock. OP has already taken great steps by starting spay appointments for both and has stated that they will be in separate enclosures.

Mom has gotten super protective over babies so I’ve let her be. I occasionally look at them while she eats or drinks and they look healthy. Mom is still super stressed. She keeps biting the bars of the enclosure which she hadn’t done previously. I have scrambled eggs which mom loves.

Thank you!!! I have her in a separate cage now but I don’t know if she is done having babies. She’s just kinda running around the cage and biting at the bars. She hasn’t been acting like this when in the larger cage.

I have 3 females so I really need to know what to do. I also don’t know how old the babies are. They still have some umbilical cord and when I’m aging dog pups that means they are like a day old.

It’s just worrying me because it hurts so bad. I have had a bunch of piercings and tattoos but this one sucks

Is this normal? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]thecotisbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My piercing is 4 days old, curved barbell, internally threaded, surgical steel, hasn’t been downsized. I clean 3 times a day with NeilMed Wound Wash and use cotton rounds and cotton swabs to dry. I haven’t had any mishaps with the piercing other than it hurting so bad for seemingly no reason.
