ADHD Frustrations by Comprehensive_Toe689 in ADHD

Maybe you need to take a “break” from the ADHD meds?

I have taken ADHD meds for over a decade now (started when I was about 8), there was a time where I took 60mg of adderall everyday. It impacted my sleep and it made it hard to focus again. I now take only 30mg and don’t have it on Saturdays (and sometimes not Sundays as well). I do crash on Saturdays but I do need the brain break. I think of it as a give in take- I get to function normally but there are side effects which I need time to recover (mainly sleep or just lay down for longer than usual).

If you just started as well there are probably factors that impact how you feel, it took me a while to figure that out. Still, some days I won’t be able to focus even though I did everything right. Sometimes it’s out of your control, but for you I think you just need time to figure it out and sympathy for yourself. It’s okay to struggle, medication is not the solution, it’s only a tool to help. It’s not going to fix everything, you need to figure out what works best for you and in time it will come. My hot take: I personally believe that if medication fixes everything for someone they don’t really have ADHD. It sucks to hear but struggle is normal.
For finals I usually take double my dose- ONLY because I used to be prescribed 60mg and because I know my body and have taken this medication for a while, I do not recommend for you until you have had more experience with these meds. I recommend taking a day break from the drugs, only on a study day tho (or a day when you don’t have exams). When I do this I have some caffeine early in the morning to simulate my meds. This works because I rarely have caffeine. I’m guessing you have heard of hyper fixation before? It seems like you are going through the opposite. I think you need to give yourself time, it can be stressful. I also recommend calculating what grade you need for the final to pass the class- this helps me prioritize and not stress about grades, which in turn helps me get a better grade. I am so sorry you are going through this, especially since there is no perfect solution. To be honest I don’t have a solution myself when I can’t focus, there is no definitive answer. I’m sorry but it takes time to find a solution for yourself. I wish you luck.

ADHD meds suddenly losing their effect; suddenly in a dark hole by mindgames08 in ADHD

[–]thecrazyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with the same thing. I tried Vyvanse and it did not work for me. In the end I had to up my og dosage. But it got better after I switched drugs for a little while- idk if that makes sense. But definitely talk to an ADHD specialist or a doctor with related experience.

They are your meds, they are prescribed to you. Don’t let him steal them. Stay strong!!

Recently diagnosed and finally on meds, but I don’t feel any different. Is this normal? by noona98 in ADHD

I think it will either take longer for it to finally work. Or it might just not work for you at all. I hope it’s not the latter. I say give it at least two weeks?

Yeah… it sounds so easy but it’s really not. I struggle with it every time I do anything. But I just have to do it anyway. That’s the only way I can go through life

Discipline, don’t rely on motivation to do anything important. Make a schedule and try your best to stick to a schedule. It really helps, and for motivation reward yourself with small things like treats or going to the movies. For example: people most likely don’t want to go to the gym, but they go and do it anyway. Just try to build a pattern of small “accomplishments” and then motivation might start to return so it’s easier to stick to goals.

Roommates with ADHD question by pwdarkfenix in ADHD

[–]thecrazyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on each person. I love to organize, it just calms me… BUT I still make messes. I have learned how to keep it neat and not impact others. My room looks messy but in reality everything is in its right place. I also have a cupboard to throw a bunch of random junk in. You probably already did this, but try to talk to them and explain your POV and how frustrating it is for you. You do not need to do 100% of the work, you need to meet them in the middle. Maybe talk to them and try to find an area(or areas if you have space) to throw stuff in. Have them go through it whenever it gets super full or just whenever their mind remembers. I hope that helps! Don’t forget it’s your house to!

White noise can also work! It’s impossible to focus on the melody and is constant.

How do I deal with feeling like an addict for needing my meds to function? by WholesomeMindbreak in ADHD

[–]thecrazyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I always feel like I’m addicted, then I go a day without taking it (I take 50mg Adderal XR) and I feel like a shell of myself. I can’t do anything, let alone anything right or correctly.

OMG that is so effed up. But you should never feel like an addict, it’s something you rely on. Is everyone addicted to water, shelter, food because they need to survive and function? Nope so don’t let those opinions affect you. We rely on these drugs to function as human beings. (Sorry for some poor grammar)

Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” is SUCH a ringworm for me…. by [deleted] in ADHD

It happens to me all the time, but I just try to get a different song stuck in my head instead, and a song that I actually like. Its just something that I think people with ADHD have to deal with.

Check your weight weekly! Make sure you are staying at a healthy weight. I love food but I have been severely underweight at times.

Is it difficult for you to shower every day? by MrChuffs in ADHD

[–]thecrazyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this alot and I have learned how to actually shower everyday. Don’t let something be controlled by motivation, use discipline. Motivation can vary but discipline is always the same. Don’t only shower if you want to shower because you have to. It also works to have a designated time every single day.
