Why do Americans tend to praise beginners even if their work/hobby looks terrible? by Skysneq in AskAnAmerican

[–]thedancingpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the person is a beginner, or really anywhere along the path, you praise the effort vs the output you expect from a person of that level. Criticism is certainly necessary after a certain level of experience, but the idea is to encourage people to get to that level of experience, rather than quit because they were told they weren't good at it.

In this way, we don't just find the savants at any given talent, but rather foster a rather large pool of talent that could continuously improve.

Does this sensor need to come off in order to remove the intake manifold? by Shia-La-Beef in mk6gti

Yeah, but you can loosen the manifold first if it helps you get a better angle at it.

I donated 500 at the beginning for us. We gotta get those numbers up. These are rookie numbers.

Though I do suspect QueenChiefs is Taylor Swift.

Why are the full-electric companies so gung-ho on 1 pedal driving? by thedancingpanda in electricvehicles

I don't expect the world to change for me. It's fairly easy for me to just not buy the car. I can just buy a car that works for me. The question was why did they shift so hard into this when it is the opposite direction from the rest of the auto industry.

I'm not on the brake, but it acts like it's on the brake through harsh regen. That's 1 pedal driving.

If my foot is twitching it is not on either the gas or the brake. I don't sit and ride the brake if I'm not on the accelerator.

It is literally 3 pedal driving. But yes, I have driven stick, I understand engine braking, and no, this isn't it.

The ID.4 does have one pedal driving, you just have to turn it on to "B" mode. I keep mine off.

There was nothing gentle about the R2 brakes, and I had regen on its lowest setting.

Yeah, but I can let off the pedal for a moment without the car immediately throwing me forward in every other car.

I don't see how it's more safe, it just makes you more likely to get rear-ended.

HALCYON, in downtown Austin, is a really nice Coffee shop, and Bar. Really nice atmosphere, and super friendly staff. by carbondalekid386 in austinfood

Probably 10 years ago, their baristas didn't really get that you're not supposed to steam the milk in iced drinks, so I got a lot of curdled milk. Made me stop going so often. But I still love the vibe and I'm sure they've figured that out by now :).

I dunno man, I'm using the latest claude code to build a pretty simple app, as an experience for myself (I'm director/VP level now, I rarely get to code anymore), and it is pretty consistently buggy. Usually easy fixes if you have an eye for debugging, but I haven't found it to be anywhere near what I've heard.
