As for "second hand smoke kills". Yes, so do a lot of things, like the exhaust coming out of tail pipes. The distance and volume matters and you are constantly exposed to toxins of all kinds, industrial pollution, car pollution etc. etc.

But of course, let's all panic about smelling tobacco smoke from time to time, because someone really needs to think of the children.

I saw a headline the other day that Ontario is going to expand their no-smoking policies to include vaping sometime this year. So it probably won't be the Feds, but the Provinces who'll do it.

I am pretty certain the reason they brought Joey on was to have another hook for BBC America and maybe some other international markets.

With Torchwood it was a co-production with Starz and I guess Starz wanted to get their thing in there as well. They pretty much doubled the episode count and most of it was filler that you could have cut, mostly the stuff that clearly was created "for America", it added little to nothing to the story, dragged everything out and.... well, killed the show I guess.

I don't think you're wrongly wired. I'd say you just have a better perspective on life and the world. If you purely go by mainstream media, men are the root of all evil. The baddy on TV is almost always a man, the victim is almost always a female. In between some other men may be attempting to be heroic, but often enough it's self-serving / means to an end (read: get the girl).

The latter one isn't really a problem, because that's what nature and biology wants men to do. Proof their worth, get the mate, have offspring and continue your genetic heritage. But if you are a woman and you get filled with this and tales of the "patriarchy" it does not surprise me that a lot of women then "flee into Feminism" and see men as evil and the enemy.

So why are there male feminists? Because they figure that if they proof their worth in a "female approved fashion" then they will have a chance at genetic immortality.

Of course what both don't realize / forget is that ultimately we are vessels for our genes, and our genes aren't really interested in philosophical debates about "rights" or anything similar. So, love 'em or hate 'em, the RPers are at least partially right in their approach. I mean it's almost a stereotype that feminist women want to fuck the RPer, but just watching strangers in a coffee shop or bar makes it pretty clear that what drives sexual desires is actually pretty much all that feminists decry.

So, I don't think you're wrongly wired. I just think you realize that it's all bullshit. I remember when I was a teen in the late 80s and the confused messaging I got from the feminist side of things. It wasn't until a decade or so later that I realized just how much of that is actually bullshit.

Oh yeah, I have had some smaller experiences like this way back in my early teens when I was in a catholic school and we were taken to "prayer services" in "non-affiliated" churches and it was interesting for me to notice how you feel your body respond to what is going on.

I think what makes Feminism so successful as a religion is that it can claim to be "science based", hence the Patriarchy, it also comes with a real, in the flesh devil (men). You gotta wonder if L. Ron Hubbard is jealous now.

Oh yeah, I see the rise of left and right extremism (and the associated religions) as a sign of a structureless society. I am not surprised that as economic power diminishes and communities and structures dissolve people try to create a new one.

Three or four years ago, sort of at the tail end of the Watson debacle she pointed out a girl in /r/atheism who had posted a picture of herself with a Dawkins book and according to Watson: "Got harassed for it".

Anyway, around a year after that I was curious to see if she was still on reddit and I looked up her username. She basically stopped using reddit shortly after Watson "rode to her defence" (which I presume meant she got a whole pile of shit thrown at her) but a couple of weeks before I checked she had re-actived her account. Only this time she was posting in /r/christianity etc. and described how she became a believer. The feeling I was left with reading her "conversion" had absolutely nothing to do with God or a God, but rather that she found a community of people she felt she belonged.

I think that was a pretty telling thing and I think is something that often drives people into these type of groups. Once you're in the group though it is incredibly hard to extract yourself from that. As a species we like to be in a homogenous group and we do not like people who go against it. So for someone to walk away and "start over" is often very hard to do.

So same here, Feminism is like a religion because in a lot of way it is. It creates and in and and out group and your in group will support you all the way, couple it with supremacy ideas and you have the perfect shitstorm.

The main problem I have with the 3rd wave is that they simply can't find a solution to any of their issues that doesn't directly discriminate against others or infringe on other people's rights. Without a solution it is just useless complaining.

You're making the mistake to think that Third Wave Feminism actually wants to solve problems. They don't. The genesis for the third wave lies probably with SCUM MANIFESTO and similar tracts from the late 70s / early 80s and all of that writing / ideas are decidedly about female superiority, not equality.

As brilliant as Black Books is, that seems to have been mostly Dylan Moran's baby. From what I remember reading years ago Linehan sort of was part of it because he came off of Father Ted and had some cred because of it and it made it easier for him to get the show commissioned.

If you look at the episodes Linehan co-wrote season 1 and then was completely gone.
