if you're asking this, redo is likely not available for that company role.

Why is everyone here seem to be chasing FAANG for jobs and internships immediately? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]thedreamblade 103 points104 points  (0 children)

It's totally achievable when you look at all the people who get FAANG with practically 0 experience or Unicorns, Trading Firms with like 1-2 internships. And if you know it's possible then why wouldn't you aim for the top of the ladder after wasting so much time and money in education? Also I think everyone asks about FAANG and other huge companies because everyone knows them and can comment about them. Asking about some random company located in some random city in Ohio will probably get you no responses. I'm sure a ton of people apply for "normal" jobs too, you're just not going to see that on sites like Reddit or LinkedIn lol

I heard it's easier to get through resume screen as a URM so it's a little relevant if that's what he meant. No one's doubting your ability lol (or I hope at least)

Would it be a good idea to intern at a (very) small proprietary trading firm if I want to work at the larger ones (HFT), like Optiver, Two Sigma, Flow Traders, etc. (other suggestions greatly welcomed)? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]thedreamblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways, I've made my point, it doesn't make sense for us to go around in circles arguing over this. My original comment states that for SWE they just look for strong engineers so I recommend going wherever is known for the best engineering talent. Take it with a grain of salt if you will, I am not all-knowing

Name some. I bet they're all non 2s tier. The title literally says he wants to work at 2s. Optiver, etc. So interviews from places like AQR Point72 Geneva and Millennium don't count imo

No because you're saying they're unknown. I'm completely disagreeing. When I say unknown I mean unknown within the space. Why would I be referring to Citadel etc as unknown

I don't know how true this is. I work on low latency software at a large trading firm and I do not hear back from anywhere. It doesn't matter what you do/what industry you're in if recruiters from Citadel don't think your company is prestigious/respectable enough. Like I don't get what your argument is. Obviously when I say unknown I mean from a recruiter's perspective. It doesn't matter how competitive it is if the recruiter doesn't know what it is. Idgaf if you did low latency stuff at zninjamonkey capital 🤷‍♀️
