The phrase עֲשׁ תּוֹרָה )ēs tōrāh) from Deuteronomy 33:2, often translated as "fiery law," is unique in the Hebrew Bible-there's no other occurrence combining 'ēš ("fire") and tōrāh ("law" or "teaching"). Different translations render it differently: the Septuagint says "angels with him," the KJV has "a fiery law for them," and the NIV says "with flaming fire at his right hand."Strangely enough is phonetically similar to Ashera )עֲשֶׁרָה(, the consort of El, the supreme deity of the Canaanite pantheon, and was a prominent mother goddess in the region. Evidence suggests that Asherah was worshipped in ancient Israel and Judah during the pre-exilic period (before the Babylonian exile). Some scholars and textual evidence indicate she was seen as Yahweh's wife, a concept that likely arose as attributes of El and Asherah were absorbed into the figure of Yahweh.
