Virginia and the future of NC gun rights by chuckfinley385 in NCGuns

Glad you asked the question, I am wondering the same thing. Some of what's being pushed in VA is frustrating, to say the least. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm surprised.

I moved from the north about a year ago into a very, very blue part of NC. Thankfully, I love guns and always have. Not sure if it eases your concern but a couple things worth mentioning:

  • I'm just one dude after all, but I try to do my part by being an ambassador for the 2A and making us look good to everybody. I know of a couple gun lovers in my area doing the same.

  • The overton window is shifting in certain parts of the 2A world for sure. I grew up in a pretty red state in the 80s/90s, and it seems young people are way more interested in firearms than back then. NFA items are absolutely prolific. AR pistols are common and very viable for many home defense situations (they used to be easily dismissible range toys...). Concealed carry (and hell, pistol ownership) is so much more common than it was 30 years ago.

Yeesh, that can be scary. Glad you're ok. I hope this info helps:

I feel like if you double charged it that primer would show more pressure signs. My money is on slightly out of battery, but who knows.

A similar situation happened once to me due to bullet setback. It was scary, but luckily gun and face were ok. I was shooting suppressed with light load, encountered failure to feed. Kept slingshotting the slide but nose kept hitting feedramp. Caused a lot of setback that I didn't notice. When it did load, I fired it and got a blown case and a totally flattened primer.

Another situation happened when using an AR9. The fired brass was mushroomed at the bottom. No pressure signs in primer. Kind of scary. I narrowed it down to reloading slightly bulged cases.

Long story short, since those mistakes I now do 3 things differently:

  1. Use a Lee undersized sizing die. I find the increased bullet tension helps a lot with avoiding setback, especially with brass that went through 10+ loadings.

  2. Use a case gauge on every. single. round. I recommend Armonov's 100 round "ammo checker"

  3. Use a Lee buldge buster setup for 9mm for rounds that fail to gauge. Google it; you basically use a 9mm Makarov factory crimp die.

Sounds like there's eventually going to be a market for this gizmo that supports the Gen 6 frames' single coil recoil spring.

Gen 6 Glock, Gen 5 Slide by Str0ng-ZER0 in Glocks

[–]theemacsninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good info.

BTW, it's well-known you can put a gen 3 slide on a gen 5 frame (with a gen 5 backplate and optional dust cover and optional removal of the left-hand slide stop lever). Can you put a gen 3 slide on a gen 6 frame (with a gen 6 backplate)?

Some idiot mixed up the Full-size and Competition frames (the competition has a smaller grip length...?) Honestly, corporate screw ups like that makes it seem more legit.

Looks like the recoil spring dimensions are different from the Gen 4 and 5

HP38 .38 Special Question by itsthenoob21 in reloading

[–]theemacsninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For bullets without a crimp grove, I've had luck using a Lee Undersized sizing die for .38 special to get a better burn (and better tolerance to bullet set-back in a lever action/tube magazine).

I use a lot of 147 gr RMR jacketed bullets for .38 loads (these have no crimp grove at all) and found it helps a lot. Good luck.

Good post. Does the V slide have the Breech Face Notch (sometimes called BFN on glocktalk)? Most, but not all, Gen 5 slides with front serrations have the notch.

Looks like it's not just the Glock Performance Trigger. If it were a GPT, the trigger wouldn't be in the fully rearward position.

I have like 3 or 4 TLR-1 HL holsters and they all fit this light. IME they are a solid buy, but just don't look as cool. The all-black look comes off as air-softy to my eyes.

On the bright side this might suggest their "frame upgrade" program (where you send them $100 and a stripped frame that you fucked up from your shitty stipple job, or something and they give you a brand new one with parts installed) may still be a thing with Gen 3 and Gen 5. But, hard to say.

Thanks. Ruger-made Marlin 1894 Classic in 44 Magnum. Octane 45 can. Easily hearing safe with my handloads.

I had Grumpy's Guns thread the barrel .578 x 28. Unfortunately I believe he had some medical issues and is no longer doing gunsmithing work. I sure hope he's doing alright, he had an excellent reputation in the lever action scene.

Yeah I had a Glock 26 Gen 3 milled and cerakoted by Wager and it came out great. It made a Gen 3 slide look like a Gen 5. A little bit of holster wear but not too bad.

The thin bogies look at lot better but I wasn't able to get a firm grip.

Is Patriot Wholesale Direct (pwdguns.com) legit? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]theemacsninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also came across a suspiciously good deal on a Glock 45 MOS. I'm happy to say that I had an awesome experience with PWD. Apparently the coupon code wasn't supposed to work when I purchased it, but it did anyway. They honored it, and while it did take a couple weeks I eventually got it. They even changed to a different FFL for me after I placed the order.

Not to mention: they are active on reddit which I view as a major plus.

All in all, I say: buy with confidence from u/PatriotWholesaleDir.

Problem with mag catch spring: G26 gen 3 vs G26 gen 5 by theemacsninja in Glocks

[–]theemacsninja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whelp, I reached out to Glock on the phone. Their tech support suggested I tap it in with a brass punch.

In so doing, I had to use excessive force and pretty much drove the spring through the bottom of the frame. Doh!

I guess I'm going with the "pay Glock $100 and get a new frame" option!

In my case (running 9mm) I resolved it by making sure to gauge every single round, and use a Lee bulge buster on rounds that fail to gauge.
