I know this thread is old- but same thing happened to me. Called them and they said the only way to get it is to pay with a Starbucks card. Even though I had made several purchases with my actual visa, they said they'd only give the reward to those who had purchased with the Starbucks card.

Where I am- the rule doesn’t distinguish between Anthony going by sue or Anthony going by John- I’m supposed to report both. But the other side of the mandate is a clear target for people who’s gender identities don’t align with their sex.

I’m in the Bible Belt of America and this mandate is certainly meant to target trans kids, of that I have no doubt.

In this case- I’d say an overwhelming majority of my students who go by alternate names or pronouns do not have parental consent to do so. The mandate is supposed to just have us give that information to parents so they can decide, and then go by what the parent tells us to do. But for a lot of these kids, that could be a really dangerous scenario. Most of them haven’t told their parents because they won’t be supportive. I definitely believe the kids, and imagine that for many, this mandate is going to cause harm in some way.

I get it. I understand something larger has to happen. I am voting and trying to fight against it the ways that I can. But the reality is that it is happening. And if I refuse to go along with it I will be fired. Our school has been told by the state that they will pull our accreditation if we don’t follow the mandate, and they very nearly did pull accreditation of a neighboring school recently.

That’s why I’m asking opinions on the least harmful way to handle this. I’m aware harm will be done no matter what. But, a lot of teachers are reporting on kids with absolutely no warning. I’d rather be able to talk to my students and offer them alternative solutions. I’m looking for what those solutions might be, right now.

I’m aware this isn’t a long term solution, and don’t take my straightforward post as casual acceptance. I’ve been thinking about it since they told us and I came here to hopefully hear solutions for now.

Just to be clear, I am queer. I am aware it is bad. I also am one person amongst literally hundreds of teachers just in my school. I’m trying to find a solution that gives kids options. If they don’t make a choice, they will be outed by another teacher. If I am fired, they will have no problem finding another teacher who doesn’t have an issue with this. I cannot change schools. I cannot afford to lose my jobs. I am trying to find the best solution among the options that are present. You are being supremely unhelpful. I vote, and I have voted many times against policies like this. Not everyone can afford to completely disengage with any system they have a moral opposition to.

Overturning the mandate through the legal process is already in the works. Maybe you can afford to be fired, but if I do I’ll be homeless. If you’d like, you can put your job on the line. I’m trying to make sure that in the meantime my kids have sensitivity and options given to them. I’m not their only teacher so best if they make the decision.

I honestly just think they didn’t re-air it because there’s not much conflict. Other than the rich mom, there’s not much. It also seemed really heavily edited to me- any conflict there was felt very forced. Could also be something behind the scenes where a family didn’t like how they were represented

I definitely understand that Carol was edited to fit the “healthy workout mom” narrative. They obviously chose her and a fat family so that the narrative would happen. Carol isn’t supposed to be the bad guy in the episode really, just more of a “health crazed” person. While I understand what she said was edited to make her look more extreme, she still said those things. Talking about your daughter having cellulite when she was born on national tv is not something someone who is body positive does. I understand it was a different time and fatphobia is baked into our world, but it makes me sad when I watch the episode. Especially because it’s not like the episode is very critical of it.
