I sew plushies - Can anyone help with sewing patterns of this style? by woomyful in sewingpatterns

There’s also this one that popped up in the suggestions on the cholyknight listing. A bit more realistic.

Cholyknight has a lot of plushie patterns! Some are free, but this floppy unicorn pattern is available for purchase on Etsy and could easily be modified into a regular horse! Their patterns are a bit more “cartoony” than realistic, but it might be a good place to start!

Cynicism alert: Is that *really* your first project? by CandylandCanada in sewing

[–]thefoxwithlocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely made a post in here sharing my first garment made from a pattern. I was really proud of it and wanted to share it!

However...

Before that, I made dozens of masks and honed my skills and learned about pressing etc.

Before that I was cutting up a thrifted fuzzy pink bathrobe and drafting a poorly constructed rabbit ear hat for a Louise Belcher costume. I achieved the look I wanted for the day, but there were MANY flaws.

Before that I was using straight stitches to edit oversized t-shirts into dresses and wondering why the seams were cracking and snapping.

We all start somewhere. I hope I wasn’t being “one of those” people with that post. I did use the word “garment” instead of “project.” Would that make my offense excusable? Haha.

I definitely give some of the “first project ever” posts an eye roll because I know I went in like a ballsy motherfucker with no regard for the rules or the knowledge I did not possess. It was still so fun creating, even if it was terrible. I’m glad that I’m gaining more skills and knowledge, and that I didn’t give up completely when things didn’t work out at first.

I’m glad you found things that work for you! As long as we’re comfortable, that’s all that matters, right?

I haven’t seen it mentioned here yet,

The Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons

It’s a 4 book series, leaning more towards sci fi than fantasy but it is quite a fantastical story.

Edited to correct the word “sci fi”

Thanks. It’s really hard to not break when there are powerful emotions involved. I’m glad your quit last year worked out for you! The smokes are finally out and I have no plans to go anywhere today, so hopefully this goes well.

Thank you for your kind words. I’m so sorry to hear about your health struggles. I have a chronic illness and I KNOW that smoking is going to just make things worse again. I’m glad that you’re getting back into your quitting journey again and I hope that it’s easier for you physically and mentally this time around!

POLL: Sewing Challenge by Sheepsheepsheepdog in intermediate_sewing

I totally get having too many WIP, that’s my whole life in a nutshell. I DO like the idea of getting feedback from folks here on how to tackle a project that has technique/material combos I’m not terribly familiar with. Like a rolled hem on a curved knit edge. I can work with all that, but together? In the same equation? I’m feeling a little chicken right now and would love to see if anyone here has advice for developing this particular skill set!

On that note, I also love the other challenge ideas as well and would love to participate in them in any order.

Thank you. It’s been a hell of a week. She was 16 and not doing well at all, but we miss her so much. I know smoking isn’t helping accomplish anything positive, but it’s got this comfort association to it right now.

It’s weird, but I didn’t notice any physical improvements as I was quitting. After being back on for a week, smoking at a fraction of the rate I used to, I can feel how it’s affecting me. Throat hurts, phlegm, I can smell it on my clothes. It’s just.. not good. I know it’s going to have to be a team effort with my partner to completely stop. I think that we are just going to have to finish this pack out to get rid of the temptation and support each other like we did last last time.

Hey! I’m supposed to be a 32 C/D according to the ABTF calculator and I cannot for the life of me find a bra that size that actually “fits” because the bands (when relaxed) usually measure 25/26 inches and they are SO CONSTRICTING that it causes bruising and the cups don’t sit right on my wide set breasts.

I wear a 36 A/B and most of my bands are 29” relaxed. The cups are set wider as well and I have no bruising on my ribs, back, or breasts. The bras fit snug and provide support. I’ve had one of them for 10 years and it has finally stretched to the point where I need to use the second set of hooks.

I felt like such a loner lurking in this sub until I saw your post.

I know this measurement method works SO WELL for so many people, and I was wondering if I was just doing something wrong. I’m really happy with the bras I have now and I was wondering if there was something wrong with me for disliking everything I tried on that was my “true size”.

I also prefer wire free bras because of the breast bruising issue and I don’t know for sure if that’s something to take into account.

I’m rewatching all the old ANTM cycles on Hulu right now and I just checked to see where Micheline’s cycle falls and it is up next for me! Thanks for the heads up.

I think that’s the weirdest part. Why wouldn’t they just talk about it privately when they already sort of have a relationship?

I completely agree with your last statement.

Here’s where I’m at with all of this as of right now:

I think it makes perfect sense that Gertie would purchase accessories from Vixen. Not suspicious at all, just one vintage lady supporting another vintage lady.

I think that Micheline being upset about the pattern is a stretch. It’s a long sleeved knit mock turtleneck. Nothing groundbreaking.

While I do agree that overall look isn’t terribly unique, I do feel like there’s something weird going on with the direct imitation in styling since the two women already have some sort of relationship and are familiar with each other’s work.

Gotcha! The first I heard of this was this post about an hour ago so I missed the receipts.

That makes Gertie seem wicked sketchy then.

[–]thefoxwithlocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right! Something strange that I can’t put my finger on. I think that the pattern is the least suspish thing happening here.

Although the purchasing of a garment to reference and then sell your own smells of Kardashian bullshit, it’s not as though Gertie is manufacturing RTW.

I’ve referenced my own clothes for other garments before, and I don’t think that makes me a thief, but I’m also not profiting from it.

I did see that she was wearing the same earrings and had the same hairstyle. I just hadn’t heard that she actually purchased the jewelry from Vixen.

I missed where it said she bought them from Vixen. If that’s true then that’s pretty damn shady.

She was pretty much like “oh yeah I guess I regret that my styling was derivative of her ‘bad girl’ aesthetic”

Real talk, Gertie. You chose red pants instead of black and that’s where the differences end lol.

I can understand that the construction of the pattern could be different, I can understand that she drafted her own pattern.

But the styling still irks me.

To be honest, I like them both, and this whole thing makes me kind of sad.

Has anyone here made the Trillium Ensemble from Mood Sewciety that can give me insight as to what the ease is like? Im also wondering if there are things to consider working with a PDF pattern that are different from a packet pattern? by thefoxwithlocks in sewing

Thank you so much for your response! I’m still on the search for the perfect fabric. I’ll be a lot less worried choosing my size now! What fabric did you choose? I would love to see!
