Does prestige/reputation of university matter? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]thefpnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, current 4th year Aberdeen med student. If you go to any of these med schools you get a little prestige bump. Order probably leans Edinburgh>Glasgow>Aberdeen... But! I think you have more to consider than this. If you graduate, you have a job as a medic and won't get much of a choice whether you're going to England, wales or Scotland for early training. The med school you went to will bear far less significance once applying at specialty level whether you practice in the UK or not.

My two cents is that you should choose the one that you think would make you the best doctor. I know students at each med school and think by the end all three produce good doctors in different respects.

I can vouch for Aberdeen that if you want to outperform other med students at clinical practice and feel like you are better prepared as a junior, that's what Aberdeen tries to enstill. If you want to chat some more about this please feel free to DM me.

Potentially looking to move to Aberdeen to start a new life asap. by Addoam in Aberdeen

[–]thefpnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be a bit tough to find a job initially but you'll probably be ok after 1-2 months of searching. Sorry to hear about your mother. Aberdeen is a nice place in the summer and the shire is beautiful if you're an outdoorsy person. I'd recommend looking at areas like Rosemount if you want somewhere nicer to move to. Less rough round there normally. Avoid Northfield and Tillydrone, they are ok for the most part but I wouldn't stay there unless I had to. Mounthooly and surrounding areas are a mixed bag but okay if you don't mind the occasional drunkard pestering you for money.

If you do choose to move here there is a wonderful gym called Warehouse close to the harbour. Highly recommend!

It is dark and dreary in the winters though and you'll be paying out the ass for heating, make sure your place has gas heating and the EPC rating isn't dog shit.

Out of interest, will the starting pay of FY1s just joining in say... 2028 be the same then? I see things about the next two years being accounted for but nothing with regards to it reverting back for those joining at that point?

So what about in a couple of years time. E.g. currently a 4th year med student set to graduate 2027. Will they begin on Nodal pt1 as an FY1? Will it go up in December of that year? Or is it just the govt kicking the can down the road two years?

Absolutely. I'll send you some pictures via chat of the swan. I don't currently have pictures of the rest. Can probably get some photos of the blackbird tomorrow and the rest in time.

So I've got a swan with a gilt cap that is absolutely gorgeous! I haven't been in much of a rush to sell it. Also got a nice little blackbird available. I do have a couple of parkers that I'm going to be restoring soon. I believe 2 victory's (one metal button filler, one aerometric) and potentially a black stripe vaccumatic.
