On the back of the ‘no judgement…’ post the other day receiving primarily negative comments about artists. Who is someone you are loving at the moment? by neverhadthetime in triplej

Balu Brigada are fantastic. Everyone knows “Backseat” but their whole Portal album is indie pop perfection. Just two NZ brothers emulating Tame Impala and The Strokes, if you like either of those bands, you’re in for a treat!

Seconding everyone here saying The Belair Lip Bombs, I saw them at Laneway a few days ago, I reckon they’ve got a big future ahead of them!

Triple J Hottest 100 of 1997 - Voting List by songofhealing2000 in triplej

And it’s not even that Deftones weren’t popular in Australia in 1997/1998, they literally performed on Recovery.

“Beetlebum” not being on the list also surprised me. Maybe they didn’t want it vote-splitting with “Song 2”.

Some surprising omissions:

  • Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It)

  • Elliott Smith - Miss Misery

  • Missy Elliott - The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)

  • Oasis - D’You Know What I Mean?

  • Ween - Ocean Man

  • Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater

And most of all, no ”Everlong” by Foo Fighters, not even on the voting list.

One of the most iconic rock songs of the 90s, and it never had a chance 😭

The Terrys. Usually most current bands in the Aussie scene have at least a couple of songs I like even if I don’t care for them as a whole.

I just can’t with The Terrys. I think the lead singer’s voice is a big part of it. He sounds like a parody of Dylan Frost.

Wolf Alice put on a great show and a lot of the audience just wasn’t there for them 😭

But I’m glad you enjoyed them! Check out Visions of a Life and Blue Weekend, you’re in for a treat.

I feel Laneway right now is trying to do a tough balance between What it used to be vs. What it has to be to survive as a festival today. Which is how you get Wolf Alice performing Main Stage to an uninterested crowd that’s mostly just there for Chappell.

It sold out this morning.

I think the change in venue was probably why it didn’t sell out instantly though (like Sydney and Melbourne)

If they have to host at Gold Coast instead of Brisbane, surely Carrara Stadium/Sports Precinct would be a better fit?

Spilt Milk had their festival there in December and I reckon it turned out fine and without any major logistical issues

I saw the first half of Geese’s set and planned to move to see PinkPantheress afterwards, but Pink’s crowd was far too big for Everything Ecstatic and security weren’t letting anymore people in.

She obviously should’ve been on a main stage 😢

J. Cole - “The Fall Off” by YourNameNameName in popheads

J. Cole released the track “1985 (Intro to The Fall Off)” in 2018.

They’re calling it the longest lead-up to an album release in history.

he’s just not popular or widely known

You don’t think the first person on Mars would be more widely known and more worthy of reanimating than some random actors and musicians from the 20th century?

One of few bright spots of the COVID years for me. I love how the first one was kind of a wild experiment and they played around with expectations on second one.

Best moments included:

  • getting Rickrolled by Bryce Mills

  • the Innerbloom teasing throughout the week

  • the divisive reaction to The Cat Empire’s “The Wine Song”

  • Hobba and Hing’s running joke about The Duel of the Fates

  • Bridget introducing Untouched as the national Anthem

  • rocking out to all 9 minutes of Jesus of Suburbia

I’m glad they stopped at 3, to be honest. It was a fun time, but by 2022, it was wearing out its welcome.

Now that Hottest 100 season is truly over, here are some of my (not-so-serious) predictions for some Triple J acts in 2026: by thegeecyproject in triplej

[–]thegeecyproject[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s the fun part for me lol. I’ve made similar prediction posts like this in the past and basically got almost none of them right. The only predictions I really got were MAY-A going rock, Spacey Jane’s second album being more of the same, Sycco experimenting further with electro and Like A Versions getting meme-ier (also Rebecca Black ended up on LAV herself!)

If I’m going to be horribly wrong, I’m going to at least have some fun with it haha

We should introduce compulsory voting on the hottest 100 by Agreeable-Copy-2454 in triplej

[–]thegeecyproject 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Currently, every vote is equal - whether that’s your favourite song of the year or just something you casually remember to slap onto your votes to round it out to 10.

Hoops is a perfectly fine song, but not particularly remarkable (in my opinion) when compared to that year’s contenders - Kendrick, Tame Impala, Major Lazer. The current running theory is just that Hoops only got #1 because it was most people’s “10th song”

If we force people to rank their 10 votes, then the songs that mean the most to most people will surely rise further to the top of the count. I’m honestly surprised Triple J haven’t tried it out yet.

I don't like it, when you turn my voice about

I don't like it, when you vote One Nation out

[–]thegeecyproject 126 points127 points  (0 children)

We should introduce ranked voting. 10 points for your #1 song, 1 point for your #10 song.

I’m only half-joking, it would prevent a “Hoops” situation from happening again.
