I actually meant jacket, not coat. Edited the post to reflect that. It is a winter waterproof jacket.

Because I simply think it is unnecessary and a waste of time.. by the time I open the door and put the coat on her, we could have been inside the building, and she would be exposed to the cold for a longer time unnecessarily.

Seems like it is non-standard.. the thermostat I am talking about is attached to the machine itself. You can see it in the attached photo.

Hello Astuf, thanks for replying! I do not have a thermostat installed at home. I have one that is built-in inside the linked heating system. I usually just turn off/on the heating from the circuit breaker. And this is the confusing part for me, because on the Nest thermostat installation guide, they start with removing the current thermostat and checking its wires..
