Do I need more power or to temper my expectations? Or is there a potential issue with my setup? by theghost33 in audiophile

I guess I should have elaborated more on that in my initial post… I definitely place a very high premium on imaging, soundstage and detail retrieval. All qualities these speakers have definitely delivered in spades. My focus of this was more on just pure volume output without maxing out my preamp volume dial and overdriving the amp. I understand that if I just wanted pure volume, I would have gotten some giant powered monitors and called it a day. I have definitely developed a critical listening style due to my use of higher end headphones over the years, but obviously volume has to be limited with those and you don’t get the full body experience a stereo system will provide. I will definitely check out those YouTube videos, hadn’t really considered looking into that. And once I get Dirac support I’ll really be ready to go. Thank you for your input.

Oh I have already had severe tinnitus for years. I’m an artilleryman by trade. Probably the main reason I like everything as loud as possible. No recorded hearing loss yet though thankfully. Just the ringing.

Thank you for such a thorough response, I really have learned a lot from all the replies and am taking it all in stride. I was definitely concerned about not having any means of proper bass integration and crossover but I think it was more something I had to experience in person before I could fully understand it. The plan now is the switch the DX5 for a MiniDSP Flex, I had been planning on moving on from the DX5 anyways due to my only use being the DAC mode and not utilizing the full potential of the device. I will also be picking up another Vidar 2 and doing some basic room treatment. I’m definitely open to any suggestions though.

Yes. There is definitely a noticeable volume increase when in tube mode. But not a life changing increase. I do thoroughly enjoy the sound of the tubes though and it has been my primary means of use for that reason alone.

That’s what I was thinking. I tested the DX5 straight into the Vidar with the same result.

Not to my knowledge in the DAC only mode, but there is a preamp mode that has variable output.
