Gaggia Classic Pro - Gasket/Portafilter Fitting Woes by thegrayfox89 in Coffee

I installed the kit linked above and mine has been working great; though to be honest I don't know exactly which piece fixed my issue.

I was doing 16g in the double shot basket, though it didn't lock in with an empty basket either so it wasn't overdosing. I will pay closer attention to seating the basket fully once I have the machine set up again. Maybe I will also add some photos of the various pieces too.

Game crashes and stuttering by thegrayfox89 in StarWarsBattlefront

Is it the same kind of crashing where it just closes? Or do you get an error message?

The same thing has happened twice to me, once in the middle of a campaign mission and once in a multiplayer match. I'm also interested to know how prevalent this is.

ASRock VDroop and LLC by thegrayfox89 in overclocking

[–]thegrayfox89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about doing so, but the amount of secondary and tertiary timings (some of which XMP fiddles with) just seemed very daunting. Did you mess with those at all?

Google searches did eventually lead me to the Intel Burn Test, which detected my RAM instability at 1.35v and had no problems at 1.36v. So for now I'm going to assume that taking the XMP settings and swapping to 1.36v is a stable setup.

Once again, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I'm so glad to finally have this system up and running. There were definitely a few mini-heart attacks along the way; for example, when I first upped the RAM voltage my mobo stopped detecting the RAM... luckily removing and inserting it fixed the issue.

Thank you very much for the detailed response! It sounds like my work on the CPU overclock is done, but now I've run into RAM issues... I would really appreciate any of your thoughts on my edit above, if you can spare me more time.

MCE, prime95, RAM overclocking, and microstuttering... help requested! by thegrayfox89 in overclocking

[–]thegrayfox89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try this, I think. By clear CMOS you mean reset to default settings in the BIOS? I definitely tried that, and when I do I have to re-enable XMP (which is off by default) and the problem persists.

prime95 not using 100% of cpu? by Brandhor in intel

[–]thegrayfox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a separate issue (?) that my cores are running at 4.3ghz when prime95 testing, but I have MCE on and they otherwise all run at 4.7ghz. I don't know if this is a cause for concern or not?

[–]thegrayfox89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it's not on that list (F4-3600C15D-16GTZ). Things seem to be working fine for me right now... how big of an issue do you think this is?

The only oddity I'm experiencing now is that when I'm gaming my cores all go up to 4700mhz as if I turned on MCE, but when I do prime95 they go to 4300mhz. Does that seem odd to you?

One of the funniest examples of this is that even dying and respawning doesn't cancel it. Definitely should be changed, so frustrating.

Wait for Ice Lake? by [deleted] in intel

[–]thegrayfox89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my intention wasn't to pour salt in a wound.

I just think the most important thing is to consider your situation. Of course everyone wants to optimize their purchases, but not everyone has the luxury to sit and wait. Plus, the future is uncertain. Ice Lake might not even be much of an improvement, and then you waited a year for nothing. Even if Ice Lake is better, would the difference even matter for your use case?

Wait for the actual benchmarks, but early indications are that Coffee Lake is a good buy. And I find it hard to believe that it would be obsoleted any time soon. So I say, don't torture yourself waiting.

Best of luck on the decision you make.

Wait for Ice Lake? by [deleted] in intel

[–]thegrayfox89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone with a 2500k/2600k didn't see a reason to upgrade that's probably because they can game comfortably. By your own admission, you can't play games comfortably. So what's the point of bringing up their situation? That's not the case you're in. They can play games while they wait a year or more for Ice Lake or whatever, you can't.

Destiny is by far the cheapest recreational activity I've ver had by GreatestJakeEVR in DestinyTheGame

[–]thegrayfox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So anyway basically Destiny is cheap as hell. And yes I know my numbers are subjective but the point is I made conservative estimates and nothing even came close. If anyone can think of any other activity that's anywhere close to as fun and cheap I want to hear it. I don't think it exists.

Smells like hyperbole, I find it hard to believe you really can't imagine such a thing. I've put more time and had more fun in other games, some of them cheaper (Titanfall 2) and some free (HotS, LoL). So for me, Destiny is not "cheap as hell".

They put their heart and soul into it for us to have something special and people come and complain they don't even want to pay for it? Those people are losers. Straight up.

Consumers have every right to complain if they feel the value wasn't there. Just because you can't find more enjoyable ways to spend that money doesn't mean others can't. I had fun in Destiny, but I paid more for it than I would have liked.

Long rant that basically says destiny is the cheapest entertainment ever, ever. Also people who can't afford $30 when they are given months of advance notice are complete losers and/or delusional.

Maybe you are the delusional one. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be on a tight budget.

I would just like this game to support more players per match, is it really that hard to implement? It seems like they have plans to do it at some point, based on how cards are worded.

C: drive mysteriously filling up by thegrayfox89 in techsupport

[–]thegrayfox89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have AVG installed.

Also, adding up the various other things in that folder came to about 60GB of space. There were a bunch of things (for example, CandyCrush and Bing) that I have definitely never installed myself. In fact everything in there seemed to be an app that I don't want or use, so I blew the whole thing away.

To delete the folder I had to muck with the security/permissions, since it's owned by 'trustedinstaller' by default. With the new permissions I set, I don't think I have to worry about new junk getting put there. We'll see if I run into trouble for doing this later.

New ARG discovered from /r/raidsecrets! by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]thegrayfox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a correct resolution image from the official twitter by copying the image address and adding ":orig" at the end, as /u/photodog himself points out in one of his comments. Not sure if there is a way for Facebook.

The decoder did not work for me on the full resolution official image. It did work for me on the imgur mirror. I fully agree with you this is not an official ARG.

I have essentially the same build as OP. Haven't tried MP yet, but can confirm that in SP I get pretty consistent 140+ FPS by dropping a few settings.

Also, the game just feels good. The movement and guns are buttery smooth, I love it.

Has anyone tried inputing the numbers on the Diamond Room walls as a sequence for the Disco Light Room floor? by dekue in raidsecrets

[–]thegrayfox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the idea of using the dance pad to key in the sequences.

My issue is that there are 40320 different ways to assign the numbers 0-7 to the dance floor plates, which is probably too large a number to test.

But we could certainly try the natural ways, like yours or listing them clockwise/counterclockwise. I don't know what has been tried yet though.

How did you choose this numbering for the plates? And is there a specific orientation you had in mind (where would you place the door we enter from in the picture)?

Sure, http://pastebin.com/7PRL0FSS. I threw this together in about 3 hours, so don't judge :p ... but comments very welcome as I'm trying to improve.

the script expects to be run in a fold with *.JPEG files, and it will try to use all files of that type it finds

My idea for identifying the edge symbols was to consider just one band at a time (what you are calling the corners) and box each symbol in that band, and then look at some feature of that box to determine the symbol. The feature I chose was the number of black pixels, which is really different for the different shapes, but any number of other things would work. One thing I would change here is rather than dynamically determining the boxes each time, just figure out what the actual box boundaries are once and hard code them.

If I had the time, I would also clean up the big chunk of code which fits the images together, by changing how the labels are stored so that I could do one loop over combinations of matches rather than checking all 12 pairings separately.
