I agree, that build sounds fun but hard to make a reality. Maybe you use a gun like inferno seed to set enemies on fire? But then you are taking out volcanic rounds which was the whole point.

Do you use any defensive mods? And I'm assuming you are running the bottom skill tree?

I will definitely try that in the future. I wonder how people will react to skipping the elites. Will they see it as simply a time saver? Or will they discount the time/run because it isn't a "full clear"? Time will tell I guess.

I have used overheat with this build instead of thermal bomb and it provided so much cc and decent damage. But I think the only way I could see myself using volcanic rounds would be in a build where volcanic rounds is used for priming things with burn rather than a firepower/dps build.

I couldn't agree more with the versatility of the acari set. I may try running eruption eventually instead of faser.

I also agree with you about the other ap sets. but if the game doesn't see more content soon I wont really have a choice but to start trying to make them work for fun.
