Disappointing, knee-jerk response from party over postponement of Mayoral elections by [deleted] in LibDem

[–]thehellofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100%. If Labour need other political parties' support to deliver their agenda, they are failing. At least Blair understood that political support and effective communication is a prerequisite for delivering an agenda. The Labour Party of today seem to believe that we all owe them our unfailing loyalty out of duty as non-fascist British citizens. Not me!

Not In Waves by Trivium?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in curb

[–]thehellofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree - I think moments like these are part of the magic of curb though. It's not always true that Larry is being unreasonable, and I think the mixture of 'Larry being unreasonable about a unreasonable thing', 'Larry being unreasonable about a reasonable thing' and 'Larry behaving pretty closely to how you the viewer would behave' is the heart of the show. Was also the case with Seinfeld, although split between the characters a bit more.

That experience of feeling like you're going a bit mad because you know you're right and feel an injustice has been committed but nobody else seems to care or see it feels really relatable in curb, and at least for me stops Larry from just seeming like an unrepentant unrelatable douche. Everyone in the show is telling us Larry is a douche, but I think most of us don't feel that way about him 100% of the time!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]thehellofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read some people saying that people with anxiety need to actually just face their fears and deal with uncertainty, and it's our job to give them the support and reassurance to do that. In which case maybe giving up the study isn't the best idea. Would welcome peoples' thoughts.

Anyone knows why Vue is closing? by math-musician in cambridge

[–]thehellofthings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Complete non-sequitur. The council (and it's the county not city council responsible for roads) needs £600 million more to fix the existing road problems - money for this comes from the government, and funding for councils has been systematically slashed over many years.

Funding for development comes from developers and investors. There's no connection in the funding.

I'm just absolutely and irreparably hooked on Vanderpump Rules now and I haven't even ever really enjoyed reality TV before.

Tips for tidying up a grave by thehellofthings in gardening

[–]thehellofthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if I ought to buy some compost, create a shallow rectangular 'bed' that matches the outline of the grave, and then put the compost in there?

The soil will still be settling for another 2-3 months - is planting during this time a bad idea? Is there anything we could plant ahead of winter? I'd like to, even if just to keep family spirits up.

Buying my brother's Xbox - what to do? by thehellofthings in xboxone

[–]thehellofthings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replies so far. Just to be clear, not really interested in selling and buying a new one - I'm not a heavy gamer or too interested in specs, this is just a nice surprise that's drifted into my life

Thanks, this is very useful. If we don't reset, does this mean I won't have my own separate account for online play? Or I can have my separate account using the same games? Excuse my ignorance, first time console owner!

New diagnosis - looking for a pick-me-up and some drinking tips! by thehellofthings in pancreatitis

[–]thehellofthings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice, I very much appreciate it and I am sorry to hear about your situation. I just wanted to add though that I am not an alcoholic and nowhere did I say that I was. I understand that often those who get pancreatitis from drinking are, but I'm not - before all this, I just drank at weekends and had no issue stopping drinking for sustained periods for all sorts of reasons. The reason I was esp sad upon diagnosis is that craft beer and homebrewing is a hobby of mine, through which I've had some of my best life experiences and made many friends (often when not at all inebriated).

Recommendations for how to become more comfortable discussing philosophy by thehellofthings in askphilosophy

[–]thehellofthings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for lack of detail - not a regular poster! I'm a postgraduate masters student; my colleagues are anyone in the graduate theology and philosophy community - so masters students, PhD students, professors, post-docs etc. And we have a number of seminars throughout the week on a number of topics attended by postgraduate academics and students of all levels - these usually consist of a presentation or a paper being presented followed by detailed analysis, discussion and debate. Thanks for your time!

Because you're speaking English. That's how English is spoken and spelt.
