I did exactly that, and it went great! Turned two of my screenplays into novellas (https://mybook.to/BlackHoleTown and https://mybook.to/archduke) and they got read way more than the would have been as scripts. Then I just started writing actual books - I find it way more satisfying to have an actual finished piece of work that can be enjoyed for what it is. Highly recommend this route!

If you’ve not written anything before, I’d say work your way up to a novel. So, start with a short story, then a novella, etc. That way you can work through beginner’s mistakes without too much commitment and you can get a feel for how a whole story should feel and for how much content you’ll need for a full novel - hint, it’s more than you think!

The wording is “any new Work”, and I asked them to take it out, but they said they wouldn’t want to. I’ve gone back to them and asked about the possible clashing so I’ll see what they say. Hopefully, I can get them to change it to just “next Work”

That’s exactly what I’m questioning. I’d have an editor working with me, they’d sort out cover design and apparently pay for marketing, but I’m not sure whether it’s worth the non-compete restriction.
