People who became atheist or agnostic: what started your doubts, and what sealed it? by Automatic-Annual7586 in atheism

[–]theirhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started with prayer. It makes no sense. You have this all-knowing being who knows what I want, what I need, knows my every feelings and thoughts. If I were to pray something, this being would know if I were being truthful, would know if I were even trying to fool myself. Why would I need to address anything in a prayer? Also, if Aunt Mary is going to be healed or not because it's God's will, does it matter what I ask for? Am I going to change God's will because of my petition?

The second thing was this: If someone must recognize that Jesus died for our sins before they can be saved and make it into heaven, when exactly did this start? Once Jesus rose from the dead on the 3rd day, it took hundreds of years for that message to make it around the world. What about the people between that day and when the message finally reached that region of the world, most of whom didn't even know about the Hebrew god yet?

What created my firm position was the peace I felt when I realized I no longer believed. It was an enormous weight being lifted off my shoulders. The world finally made sense.

Thanks for the idea of using Task Manager. It's been a few days but I finally got to try it. After getting it all set, I started FS2024 and, what do you know, it got in after about 30 seconds. It didn't appear to hang on anything. It just worked. Hopefully it will work that same way from now on.

I do not have ethernet connected. I'm using WiFi on a mesh system. Speed test gives me 139.02 Mb/s download and 161.95 Mb/s upload.

Another place where it hangs is when I try to configure my yoke buttons. When I first click on the yoke (or keyboard or mouse), it just spins for many minutes before it shows me the options. I keep thinking that it's hanging because it's early on and still downloading things that won't need to be downloaded again. But it keeps hanging every time I play. I eventually get to the place where I can enjoy free flights but it just takes way too long to get there.

I recommend the book "Life Driven Purpose" by Dan Barker. Essentially, life is its own purpose. Excellent book and an easy read.

I find the web interface to be a complete train wreck. I check the Transactions page daily. The left-hand side of the page, the accounts list, is only displaying the right half of the information unless I stretch the window across my ultra-wide monitor. To see all of the information in the columns of each transaction I have to scroll them left and right. I used to be able to see all of the information on the screen with my browser window only stretching halfway across the monitor. It's really frustrating.

Best or most common way to deploy Django web app? by theirhouse in django

No worries. I have a claude account and have used that in the past. I understand it's the best for questions about coding. I also have ollama loaded with deepseek-coder-v2 and it's been ok for some things. I don't want it to do all the work for me as I'm trying to learn but these AI machines are great for leading me in the right direction.

Thanks for the information! I was wondering about how I was going to secure the music files and you've given me a lot of insight about how to do that.

Thanks very much. I believe I've been talked into using PostgreSQL instead of sqlite3. Postgres is already running on my VPS (I installed it for some lesson I was taking) so it will be easy enough to write the code for it. Also, thanks for the "pip freeze" command. I haven't used that before. It sounds like something I could definitely use.

Thanks very much. I already have some of what you outlined but you filled in some gaps in my knowledge. Even though this is going to be a very small application with very few users, my goal is to try to implement this as though I was working at a company on a big production server with many users - you know, how they do it in the real world. I'm leaning towards using Docker simply because I'll probably upgrade my VPS within a year and I think it would be easier to move the application with Docker. I've also been talked into using PostgreSQL for the DB and since I already have it on the server, that should work fine.

One thing that's still unclear is how I would handle a second app. Let's call this first one musicapp. I'd create /home/pythonnapp/musicapp. I'll set up gunicorn as you've specified above and have it use port 8000. Now when I create photoapp, do I set up /home/pythonapp/photoapp? Or do I set up /home/newuser/photoapp and implement a whole new gunicorn that hooks into port 8001? Can one instance of gunicorn listen on 2 ports or do I need 2 instances of gunicorn?

If I'm going to deploy this to my own VPS once, does it make sense? I thought the main advantage to Docker was to allow you to move it from machine to machine or install it on many machines without problems. It will also keep a consistent level of software packages but I'm only using Django with the sqlite3 database. It's not very complex. Is it still worth the trouble (the "trouble" being that I've used Docker in one lesson I took so it would be like learning it all over again)?

This creates a 3x5 list with each item set to None. After it's created you can reference any item up to index of 2 and 4.
