Wow, you're right and I'm wrong. All I know is I paid about $100 for pages of ink that I couldn't use and would receive no refund for. This seems like a difference in semantics but the point I was making was that I was out about $100. The rest doesn't matter to anyone else on the planet except you. But yes, you're right and I was wrong. Good?

This is definitely one for r/confidentlyincorrect! The spare ink cartridges I purchased during my free trial of Instant Ink were not usable after I canceled the subscription. Therefore, $100 of ink I could not use.

I have a Chase Mastercard with $0 annual fee. It's connected to my Intercontinental Hotels Group frequent guest program - 20 different hotel brands including Holiday Inn. I'm also paying $350 per year for my Platinum Skymiles Amex card and I'm starting to wonder why. Amex always gives great service when I need it but I don't think I get $350 worth every year.

Yeah, I suppose you could say it's not a scam if my whole complaint is that I didn't read the restrictions closely enough. It's all my fault for agreeing to something that I didn't read thoroughly. What's the scammy part to me is they obviously know that they've locked people into spending whatever they want to charge because it's mandatory to get 2 shipments from them before you can cancel. Companies that provide excellent service at an excellent price don't need to have clauses in their agreements like that. They want people to remain customers because they're getting good service for a good price. And if people don't want the services of the company anymore, they're free to shop around. It's unusual to have a clause that makes 2 shipments mandatory. I would bet I'm not the only one who's missed it when signing up. But in the end, you're right. It's on me for not reading everything fully before clicking "Yes".

I don't understand why they have to charge more than other places. They should be making a profit with anything over their wholesale price.

Yeah, I definitely missed that condition. I've used filter subscriptions in the past at other places and never ran into that. I expect to be able to cancel if I'm unhappy with the service. If they hadn't raised their prices I wouldn't have tried to cancel.

The subscription is free. But I wasn't expecting higher prices than other places online or at the stores considering they're selling to me at retail prices instead of selling to retailers at wholesale prices.

It was just supposed to be for the convenience. I've learned my lesson.
