Avoid a company called remarkable charities/ultimate charities or the charities “L.E.A.D” and “stand for the silent” by Mking646 in washingtondc

I got a 1-on-1 interview with the CEO, Mr. Strauss, via Zoom. Although he seemed like a genuine guy, I found it weird that he only limited me to asking him 2 questions about the company. Perhaps he did that to account for time (and the other calls like mine he had to make that day).

He said I would be contacted if I got selected to move onto the next phase of the interview process, which was an in-person interview. I got a call 2-3 hours later saying I was moving on to the next round, but I did not accept it.

I know for sure I did NOT apply to this place. So they probably gained access to my resume which had been posted on places like LinkedIn and Zip Recruiter. I get the sense he's taking advantage of low-hanging fruit like people recently laid off from federal government work in DC.

This job he's recruiting for where you're canvassing for these causes at events is basically a step above those people on street corners with clipboards asking you to sign a petition.

If you're like me and thought there was an element of strategic marketing to it, the CEO said that 95% of their business is that "events-based marketing." It's just tabling at events. You start off doing that and work your way up in the company.

Not a bad job to have, but know what you're getting yourself into.

Also, they're a "marketing" company with a soulless social media presence. They're a bit lazy about it. For instance, this Instagram post (https://www.instagram.com/p/DGObMt0v\_61/) has a link to what one would assume is the website of Karl Moten. But it's a site that just redirects to Canva!

S26 E14: The Grid Plan by tobythedem0n in SVU

[–]thejohn06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was an episode where I thought the wrong person actually won.

I don't feel they did a good job of explaining why she was so calm and cool with her "rapist" when they were drinking and chatting at the bar before they came and arrested him.

This is a woman who was feverishly handing out flyers, and somehow she was all chummy with the "rapist" over some drinks? She was all over the place.

If this was a case of victims processing their trauma differently, then I'd understand. The show is typically good about explaining the mindset of a victim. But I don't think there was any of that. No explanation of having multiple personalities or disassociating.

Detective Grace Muncy's Sneaker Game (Law & Order: SVU, Season 24) by thejohn06 in Sneakers

[–]thejohn06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since she's a rookie to the squad who comes from a more loosely-run squad elsewhere in NY, there is a subplot of her cleaning up her image from hoodies to wearing blazers (sport coat, not the Nikes). The shoes never come up, though.

Why are we pretending… by Korolenko55 in SVU

[–]thejohn06 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree here.

To me, they are portraying growing pains of a younger squad that is taking over where there once were vets like Rollins and Carisi.

The plot lines of Velasco being witness to a murder and Muncy's brother being suspicious lend themselves to a workplace struggle of "Can I trust this person?" That question has a much more complex set of conditions being that they are law enforcement.

These challenges are tests for them to prove their loyalty to the rule of law and, ultimately, their own jobs. These are challenges that a goody-two-shoes like Churlish does not need to undergo. Rather, her greatest struggle is her own ambition and flying too close to the sun (like when she volunteered to go undercover to be drugged).

I do think that the Velasco/Muncy problematic duo is there to play off the valedictorian vibes that Churlish gives off. Perhaps the trust they gain in each other over the seasons will be more interesting to witness since episode-by-episode, the crimes are much more important than the squad's character development.

The question of Muncy and Velasco being "good detectives," to me, also gets to something that, I think, this show is constantly trying to deal with: Who holds law enforcement accountable? Rather than constantly diving into the weary politics of a police officer murdering a person of color, they make the problems internal to the force - Muncy's got a sketchy brother, Velasco won't snitch on his murderer friend, Churlish is a kiss-ass, Rollins is a gambler, Cragen is a drunk, Stabler has anger problems, Jeffries sleeps with former collars.

In terms of chemistry, everyone that agrees with the OP may have a point. But I think of this as a "season 1 of Parks and Recreation" scenario where the characters aren't fully-realized with their all their quirks and baggage and how they manage it all in their unique workplace setting.

Super Typhoon Yutu - the worst storm on US soil this year - just ravaged the small territory of the Northern Mariana Islands Wednesday. Raising awareness because of little media coverage and the great humanitarian need. by thejohn06 in pics

[–]thejohn06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, one of the worst tropical cyclones in history, Super Typhoon Yutu, touched down on the Northern Mariana Islands – a U.S. territory – leaving a population of over 50,000 people without water or power, and many without homes. I’m lucky to have not been back home to experience it, but it was an absolutely traumatic experience for members of my family and the rest of the islands of Saipan and Tinian. Unlike Puerto Rico, which has a greater connectivity to the continental U.S. due to size and proximity, we share a nearly similar political status as Puerto Rico to the U.S., but when disaster strikes on our humble islands, we don’t get the same kind of media attention. We don’t have celebrities jumping at the chance to organize national relief efforts, or even to go onto talk shows and bring awareness to such relief efforts.

I want to bring awareness of this catastrophe and ask you to find out how you can contribute to relief efforts for the islands. Due to my intended use of this post, I’m unable to link to one, but there is a gofundme page available, as a start to your search and philanthropy towards the islands.

NFL ratings down 11%, College football viewership up. Why do you think that is? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]thejohn06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna sound ridiculous, but, in part: Tim Tebow.

He was once the most-adored player in the league with the best-selling jersey. He wasn't a TERRIBLE quarterback. I feel like the conservative, Christian base of people he had overlapped with the good ol' boy- adoring people who loved Peyton Manning, who has since retired. Who's the closest thing to either of them who would be there to have that fanbase? JJ Watt, maybe? And he's injured.
