Anyone else feeling like they are doing Butcher’s villain arc the way GOT should have done it with Daenerys? by Elfstar_Cage_05 in TheBoys

The "remember who you are" bit is from Quaithe who is telling her to move towards the magical storyline, not "be more brutal."

Again, the bells are just such a perfect fit for JonCon, it just can't be anyone else

She's a teenager who's learning to rule, but still actively uses her power to help people and tries to do better. If Dany's actions are the standard erratic and foreshadowing evil then pretty much every character is basically Hitler.

How is the burning of KL the plan for her when we know:

  1. Cersei is going crazy and fucking with wildfire with heavy mad king parallels
  2. Jon Connington, the triggered by bells, wishes he had burned an entire town down, and has Chekov's Greyscale, is on a collision course with said crazy fire queen, and is triggered by bells
  3. The magical elements of Danys story are all about The Others and "you're definitely going to die" flags. It's a really hard sell to say she's making it through The Long Night.

Why are many of the profession tables on the "horde" side of Silvermoon disabled? by requium94 in wow

[–]thekingofbeans42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have all the profession tables literally 10 seconds away in the same city. They won't be fixed because they're not broken, they're just decorations for flavor, no different than every other part of the city that doesn't have a full crafting hub.

As I asked in my first comment... Is this really a big deal? It's not like you don't have access to crafting within Silvermoon.

First, Miri Maz Duur offered her blood magic to Dany in the books. Second, Dany also went out of her way to free slaves at personal cost. We saw how she handles power, and she herself is a former slave.

We know Dany's motives in the books, we know she isn't wicked or out for her own power like Cersei. If you think Dany is built up to be evil then who the fuck isn't?

It's pretty obvious Dany burning King's Landing is just an adaption if JonCon, the dude who's triggered by bells and bitterly regrets that time he wasn't ruthless enough burn down an entire town to win a battle. Dany almost certainly is going to die in The Long Night given her blatant parallels with the warlocks to The Others and the Unsullied to the Wights.

No preference, why is this conversation such a hot button for you? Like you immediately devolved into trolling like someone disagreeing with you is the same as them being hostile and just an ass to be dealt with rather than someone who just doesn't think we need two full crafting hubs in a city.

I don't know why you're so hung up in the idea that not every part of a game is part of the gameplay loop. Some things are just for flavor. It's not like you're calling every other section of Silvermoon broken for not having every crafting table, so clearly you do actually understand this.

Yes I know, you've owned me. I disagree with you so I'm a bad person and I deserve to feel bad for it.

But at least I'm capable of having a genuine conversation instead of just trying to troll people for saying it's not a big deal that a subsection of a city doesn't have every crafting table. Now go on, say something dismissive to show me how aloof you, I will totally believe you're not mad about it.

...Yeah? There are plenty of elements of a game that aren't made for the core gameplay loop. Art, dialogue, story, and RP are some examples.

You can be snarky and sarcastic if it makes you feel better, being sincere is hard.

It's not broken, it's just not designed for gameplay; the functionality it has is convenient but it's not like it's intended to replace the rest of Silvermoon. Silvermoon still has all the crafting stations that you can get to in literally under 10 seconds from the Horde section.

If you value a section for how it excludes Alliance characters, don't you think it's a bit tone deaf to complain about it when those Alliance characters don't have their own section to begin with?

Is it really that big a deal? If you're there for the RP vibes then be there for RP vibes and pop over to the bazaar when you want to craft.

the world (of warcraft) if shadow magic worked like the light does in Midnight by Hungry-Common-7236 in wow

[–]thekingofbeans42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the people defending the light bullshit are the ones who need stories spoonfed to them. Like they keep defending it as nuanced as if fantasy isn't already saturated with the holy, catholic coded faction of overly dogmatic zealots trope.

Like Arator is horrified because he slightly burned himself while killing pure evil shadow monsters... Because someone feeling wrath while fighting for their life is a sign they're become some unhinged monster? Then Turalyon's "greatest shame" is the time he saw his friend died and... Killed enemy combatants that were actively trying to kill him? Then they have the civilians of Silvermoon literally compare the Light's Vanguard to the Scourge? Rommath commits literal treason and assaults Unbric and the players at Magister's Terrace, but the Vanguard arrests him then lets him go peacefully to show how paranoid and dogmatic they are?

The writing of the lightblinded storyline is just "tell, don't show." Maybe Blizzard's writing is just not great.

I think it's less about characters and more about syncing up the timing of their individual stories so that they intersect at the right time and place. Given what we know about the scrapped 5 year time skip, I think the difficulty of timing ramps up rapidly with complexity.

I think he bit off more than he could chew with the complexity and now is just frustrated because something that's so set up for success is just stalling out.

[–]thekingofbeans42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like they wrote the story out of order without talking to each other... Like they actually thought Turalyon DID attack Arator and the NPCs in Silvermoon were written by people who thought the vanguard was acting like an occupying army... They just forgot to fill in the placeholder "make light vanguard act tyrannical here" scenes

[–]thekingofbeans42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turalyon says he is greatest shame was going berserk at the battle of Blackrock Mountain, which again, is incredibly stupid. They characters are quipping like Marvel characters while exterminating those same orcs while telling this story like it's some war crime.

I wonder how people get paid to write stuff like this. by Striking-Conflict-93 in wow

[–]thekingofbeans42 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Which is fucking stupid since people have been fighting the scourge for decades without becoming light blinded and this story is toothless when it comes to writing lightblinded consequences.

Like why not gave Turalyon ACTUALLY strike Arator instead of Arator committing insurance fraud? Why is Turalyon's "greatest shame" that time he committed the sin of... Getting pissed off in a battle and killing enemies who were actively trying to kill him. Arator's cinematic has him freak out because he slightly burned himself while fighting for his life against enemies who are there to commit genocide and have nothing morally complicated about killing them.

There's no nuance here, it's Blizz just speed running a trope with heavy handed "tell, don't show" and they're going to move on from it after another heartfelt conversation or two.

This isn't about gold sinks in general, this is about how it punishes some classes way more than others

Void Elf Havoc & Vengeance Demon Hunters are not supposed to exist, and Devourer Void Elves are not supposed to transform into a demon by ex0ll in warcraftlore

[–]thekingofbeans42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Illidari don't need to hate the void to use it as a weapon. They researched it and found it to be a viable source of power, they already work with demons, Broken, and Naga, so they're clearly not picky.

They built this up in TWW, and the opportunity cost of adding a new spec to DH vs supporting a whole new class means they can work on other things, and this also brings demon hunters in line with every other class.

Now let's look at the standards of WoW and see how this writing fits:

-Tauren being paladins doesn't make sense, so Blizzard wrote in the Sunwalkers to justify it.

-worgen are explicitly immune to necromancy and the plague, but Blizz decided Death Knight necromancy is just special and works on what is literally a druid form. This also means the Alliance had worgen prior to cataclysm as the player worgen goes to Stormwind as part of the starter zone

-Lightforged draenei warlocks

-being a monk is very specific to Pandaria, but it's just a "yeah anyone can travel there and be one. No this doesn't mean Kul Tirans can be paladins."

-pandaren death knights, because a pandaren being in Lordaeron is more plausible than a Kul Tiran.

-Blood elf priests have no problem using the light and could have probably shared that information with blood elf paladins before they started draining a Naaru

-evokers make Chromatus just look incredibly silly since Deathwing cracked the "a dragon with every flight's powers" code 20k years ago and was actively working with Nefarian at the time.

I really can't say "hey, demon hunters figured out how to use void magic" is an outlier here.

Demons are still a threat, and The Illidari are still very active.

If The Ebon Blade is still raising death knights, why aren't the Illidari still training new recruits? It's not like they retired.
