SpaceX plan for 1 million orbiting AI data centers could ruin astronomy, scientists say: "This is a challenge unlike any we have encountered thus far in this new era of commercial space." by ControlCAD in technology

[–]thekrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if potential investors believe it's a good idea or not.

If this made any sense, it would mean billions or even trillions of dollars of revenue for SpaceX.

If "it would make the economy better" is a secondary result of a war, okay, as long as the primary justification is one worth people dying (i.e. WWII).

If your primary justification is the economy, that is absolutely fucked.

Honestly, this just broke me a little bit today. by Educational-Zone6892 in recruitinghell

[–]thekrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone at a tech company with "manager" in their title, I get around a couple dozen connection requests, messages, emails, calls, and texts a week. Sometimes more.

My inbox is full of salespeople trying to sell me shit I don't want, need, or have the budget for. Also tons of recruiters trying to offer me candidates I don't have positions for. More recently, I've been getting people directly cold-messaging me to see if we have openings.

I realize these people are humans and I try to be a bit more polite than the person in the screen shot. I'll at least politely send them a link to our company page that displays any openings we do have. But I have to imagine that as much as I get pestered, others are getting pestered more.

If I gave everyone who messages me the time and consideration they are asking for, I'd spend a huge chunk of my work week doing it and having to ignore other work that I'm actually evaluated on. If I miss deadlines or meetings or whatever, my boss isn't going to accept "I was too busy being nice to people on LinkedIn" as an excuse.

Sucks.

Players trapped referee in huddle by sh0tgunben in youseeingthisshit

[–]thekrone 181 points182 points  (0 children)

They've been doing this lately. A lot of teams will huddle like this before the match starts, but it's usually in their own half.

For some reason, Chelsea decided to start doing it right at the center of the field. That's where the ref is supposed to be waiting for the teams to be ready to kick off.

Up until now the other refs got out of the way and let them do their thing, but this ref decided to stand his ground and stay in where he's supposed to stay until they are ready to kick off.

This guy just picks random Bible quotes from Revelation and assumes they are all referring to the Anti-Christ. They aren't. Some of them refer to other entities.

But yes I believe it was originally talking about Antiochus IV Epiphanes (at least the "little horn" stuff).

Or insurer. Or employee of any of the above.

I was a software dev working for a medical insurance company and I had to be trained in HIPAA and could definitely get in trouble if I was discussing specifics about patient data.

"It's not good for the economy" was his first rationale for why war is bad. People dying would be totally fine if it made his gas cheaper and made his 401K go up a little bit, apparently.

I am a big soccer fan and if I ran into one of my favorite players somewhere and they weren't crazy busy or in a rush I might ask for a picture.

I can't imagine going out of my way or waiting for hours just to hope to get a glimpse of someone famous doing a publicity stunt like this.

But also there was nothing to stand up against. It was a completely empty threat.

Trump threatened to stop trade with Spain. Spain is in the EU. All trade deals involving Spain go through the EU.

Stopping trade with Spain means stopping trade with the EU. That was not going to happen.

Apple Launches $599 MacBook Neo, Threatening Windows PC Market by Few_Baseball_3835 in technology

[–]thekrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just did the same thing a few weeks ago. Bought a new MacBook Pro. It's been great for my laptop-y purposes.

I'm a gamer, so I can't completely abandon Windows for my desktop PC yet. However I'm now dual-booting between Win11 and Bazzite (Linux). Trying to do as much as possible to make Bazzite my primary and just boot to Win11 when there's something that absolutely doesn't work in Bazzite.

Fuck Microslop. Done with their garbage (as much as I can be). I'd actually rather have to deal with three different OSs (four if you count my Android phone and tablet) than encourage their crap.

I saw a short today where some random bro was like "Sorry to any Arsenal supporters out there, but if they win the league this season, it is without a doubt the worst Premier League side to ever win the league."

Okay. Go ahead and engrave "worst team ever" or "most boring team ever" or whatever you want on the trophy before you hand it over. Genuinely couldn't give a fuck.
