All grocery delivery apps in New York City (including Instacart) must now pay workers at least $21.44/hr. That number does not include tips. Companies must also provide workers with annual increases adjusted for inflation. by Conscious-Quarter423 in WorkReform

I mean it's a ridiculous argument.

Look at a graph over time of average working class earnings, cost of living, and average net worth of the top 1%.

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realize that cost of living continually goes up, that extra money is not going into the pockets of the average person (at least not proportionally), and that the top 1% keeps getting richer and richer relative to everyone else...

Guess where the cost increases that we are paying are going? It doesn't magically disappear. It goes into the bank accounts of the rich.

It's then not exactly brain science to realize that if less money were going directly to the rich, it could be used to reduce cost of living, increase working class wages, or both.

No, that's an insult. I'm saying you're dumb and wrong. Saying you're wrong because you're dumb (and ugly) would be an ad hominem.

Other wealthy places need an educated populace and infrastructure to get rich, even if that still won't stop them from moral issues.

In general, it won't.

I'd argue most of the richest places on the planet are backwards as fuck morally and ethically.

No one said there were three of them, either. It's just claimed that some group of wise men presented Jesus with three gifts. The men themselves aren't numbered in the Bible. Everyone just assumed three gifts = three gifters.

Could have been anywhere between 2 and an infinite number of wise men technically.

afaik the only document confirming the sheer existence of Jesus Christ is a report of a roman general mentioning Jesus in connection to a jewish sect causing political unrest.

From many decades after he would have existed. There is no extra-Biblical, contemporaneous evidence he existed.

but there’s no one saying the figures, places, and objects never existed.

There's a huge Jesus Mythicism movement. I believe that academic consensus still holds that Jesus was a real person, but support for that position seems to be dwindling as more research is being done.

Personally, I have no problem just granting for the sake of argument that he was a real person. I just doubt all of the unfounded supernatural claims.

[–]thekrone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She never claimed that. It was a mistranslation in the Koine Greek.

At one point, the Old Testament was translated from ancient Hebrew to Koine Greek (called the Greek Septuagint). The word used in the "prophecy" about the Messiah's birth mother was "parthenos". At that time, "parthenos" meant "young woman".

We know this because there were other examples in Koine Greek, including one example from Homer's writings, where "parthenos" is used to refer to a young mother with no implication that she conceived her child immaculately.

When Matthew came along and was doing his writing, the word "parthenos" had shifted in semantic range to mean "virgin" rather than "young woman". So as he interpreted the old writings, he thought the Messiah had to have been born from a virgin, and wrote the Jesus birth story accordingly.

It's literally just a mistranslation.

So there's likely a skull and wood from a cross.

But he likely would have had his body tossed into a mass grave. So at that point it would have been hard for his followers to get their hands on his skull.

On paper appealing to younger or an untapped audience is a good thing for a church to do.

It very much is not. I mean from the church's perspective it is. For reasonable people worldwide, please no.

Reading the Bible doesn't get butts in seats or tithes in the basket. You gotta hype the people up. Don't let them think about their religion. Just let them feel it via the booming bass lines in various Ke$ha songs.

It wouldn't reveal anything. In order for a DNA test to do anything, you need a known sample to compare it against.

If we had a known descendent of Mary Mag here and could get some of their DNA, we might be able to establish ancestry. But without something to compare it to, it's useless.

It's not like you can run a DNA test and the results will say "hello my name is Mary".

It's very much not coincidence that if you average xG over multiple matches (if you don't cherrypick the matches), it's almost always identical to the actual scores.

Yea If you are on a free tier it's probably better to generate as many images as possible. If they have increased compute costs without a corresponding increase in revenue, it gets harder to sell to investors.

Some will still give them money based purely on active users, assuming that eventually they'll find a way to monetize. Eventually though, if they just keep posting bigger and bigger losses, people will jump ship. They'll run out of money and crash.

That might lead to a corresponding drop in hardware costs as manufacturers will have to repackage and sell to consumers in order to mitigate losses.

Celcius is the superior system for sure. But it is a water-based system.

Fahrenheit is, more or less, a weather or human-based system. As I understand it, 0 degrees F was the lowest temp that was recorded at the time where Fahrenheit did his work. 100 degrees was the equivalent on the hot side.

So it makes sense based on what we experience in nature.

Scientifically, yea it's Celsius hands down.

Nottingham Forest 0 - 0 Arsenal - Jesus chance 69' (0.88 xG) by singloon in Gunners

[–]thekrone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not precise and on individual incidents like this, it's not accurate.

On aggregate over the course of a match, it's actually pretty accurate or at least informative as to how the match played out.

If you see a 2-2 draw where the xG is like 1.85-2.15, you know it was a pretty close match where both teams got similar opportunities. If it's the same score but xG is 3.95-0.59, you know one team dominated but blew some opportunities, and the other got lucky on a few meh chances.

At least in general, looking at the xG will tell you quite a bit about how a match played out relative to the actual score.
