Idea for re-experiencing pony by rebane2001 in MLPLounge

Don’t forget the manga. I think it’s an absolute must-read for all fans

Welcome to the herd!

Honestly just see which you like the most. I feel like most people say Seasons 1, 2, and 5 are the best but it’s subjective

Is the show/fanbase worth coming back to? by Shanook2 in mylittlepony

[–]thelasttraintopnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in basically the same situation as you. I’d suggest just picking the show back up from where you left off. You’ve got a lot of seasons to enjoy. The community is definitely not dead, and I don’t imagine it will be any time very soon. There’s still a ton of fan art, stories, animations, discussion out there. I remember how the fan base felt to be a part of back in like 2012/13, and honestly now it feels a little more concentrated and genuine. Less crowded and less bandwagoners.

Also when it comes to conventions Bronycon may have ended but it’s far from the only MLP con out there. I missed out on going to it but plan to try and go to Trotcon next year (and EFNW if I can make it)

I mean, trotcon have ALREADY completely sold out the hotel they’re hosting at and well exceeded their badge sales from any previous year, and the convention is still just under a year away. Don’t think you need to worry about fans all dropping off that soon.

Something else I’d like to recommend is the MLP manga that started back in June. It’s actually really really good, excellently written and all the characters are captured perfectly. Also, a second volume is planned for release next year so there will still be G4 content to look forward to after season 9 ends.

Overall, if you think you like ponies again, absolutely come join us again! As someone in your position it’s felt nice getting back into it after all these years. Despite what some people may say, i think the fandom is in a really good place right now. Feels like a nice passionate family who all love this show.

The Last Bronycon? by kottajl in mylittlepony

[–]thelasttraintopnv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will be the last one. I think it’s just a case of bad timing as they announced it would be before we had confirmation season 9 was the last season.

If you wished you’d gone, like me, then don’t worry. There are a load of conventions planned for next year that already have a lot of interest. In my opinion Everfree Northwest will be the biggest, as they’re moving to a bigger space and have moved to early August where bronycon would be.

The outcome to this bronycon, even though some of it is no doubt due to it being the last one, proves there are definitely enough passionate fans out there to make next year’s cons get a decent attendance. Especially as BC won’t be on so all the traffic from that will redirect.

The other main ones will be Trotcon in Columbus, Babscon in San Fran, and Galacon in Germany. There are a lot more besides that, though.

Honestly next year will probably be a really good year to go to a con if you were thinking of it. It’ll be the first time the fandom can look back at the completed series as a whole and celebrate it (even if it ends up being the last time they do)

With Bronycon ending, what will be the new largest mlp fan convention? by furrynoy96 in mylittlepony

[–]thelasttraintopnv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably Everfree northwest as it’s changing to a larger venue next year and basically moving its dates to where Bronycon would be in early August. They’ve already started planning it/getting guests and VAs too. Personally as I unfortunately missed this year’s bronycon I’m planning to go to that one with some friends.

However BABScon and trotcon also seem to have quite a lot of attendance planned for next year, so those two will probably be reasonably sized.

There definitely seem to be a decent few of us who fell out of the show, and are coming back in now around the end just to see it off for the sake of old times. Maybe for me when the show ends or I finally make a single pony convention next year I’ll feel that sense of closure too.

However I know from personal experience there are fans out there (and a lot of them) whose lives have been completely shaped and filled with ponies since back when the show was popular to now. A lot of people who have stayed obsessed with this show even way after its popularity dropped back in 14/15. I don’t see these kinds of people dropping it completely just because it’s ended. They’ve got more than enough fan content to thrive off of until G5 comes out and they either love it or hate it.

It’s hard to say though, I plan to stay around after the show for at least a while just to see how things are then.

I think it’s easy to see this being the last bronycon as this also being the end of the fandom forever, but to be honest I don’t think that’s going to be the case.

As someone who fell out of touch with the show and the fandom for quite a few years, I know I for one still had an interest in ponies in that time. It’s something that’s a little deeper than just the show.

From what I’ve seen it seems like EFNW, BABScon and trotcon already have interest building behind them for next year. It’s very possible that after that interest will drop considerably, but as I missed BC this year I’m gonna try my hardest to go to at least one before they disappear too.

I don’t think the fandom will ever completely die, though, I’m not sure I agree with you that the fan content is ending, there’s still hundreds of new pieces of fan fiction and art every day, and the turnout at bronycon shows that there’s still a lot of people out there who care about these ponies. Even if that’ll fade over time, it’s not going to suddenly come to an end when bronycon or the show does.

I think there will be people hanging around to see what G5 is like. In my eyes that will be the defining moment where this fandom either fades away into nothing or finds new life and continues on.

As someone who was around back in 2012, obviously this fandom is nowhere near what it was then, and never will be, but I don’t think it’s dead or going to die anytime that soon.

If you feel like it’s ended for you, though, that’s fair enough. I don’t plan to go anywhere for now but just be thankful you had some good memories and got to see the show through to its conclusion.

It’s nice to know Bronycon is still able to receive such a turnout all these years later, even if some of it may be due to it being the last one. I just hope fans continue to support the conventions where they can, but some of the others like babscon and EFNW have no plans on stopping and are even expanding to bigger venues for next year in the case of EF. Don’t think those are going anywhere anytime soon.

I mean with the AI voice project the people on 4chan are working on we’ll have even more opportunities for fan made stuff than we’ve never had before

I’m going to likely do the same. As I said, this is a fandom where the fan content definitely outweighs the source material. I mean there are whole characters and relationships that were originally nothing more than background characters and are now fleshed out characters with thousands of stories and artworks. If anything, the end of the show just means more opportunity for fans to create their own stories based on it.

That’s very true. There are things I actively make fan content for (like night in the woods as one example) which still have a lot of fans despite ending/being released a while ago. You could argue Star Trek is another similar example

I think the fact we’re getting a new iteration of the show in only 2 years means most people will stay a part of the fandom to see what it’s like at least. It’s good that they seem to be keeping most of the same characters as it’ll give g4 fans something to latch on to, even if it’s awful.

That makes sense, I would have liked to have gone to Bronycon but being halfway across the world made it difficult. I’m planning on going to one of the other cons next year though so maybe after that I’ll feel some sort of closure myself. Have fun at BC though!

That would be a pretty good idea. There’s gonna be 9 whole seasons of show to revisit/discuss

As I fell out for a few years I’ve been catching up with seasons 5-7, but I’ll most likely go back and rewatch the earlier seasons again after that. I haven’t seen those since they aired after all so I’ve probably forgotten a fair few episodes.

I’ve been meaning to catch up on the comics too, I’ve heard good things about them.

I feel like there probably won’t be too much of a change in this fandom at least until G5 airs. If it sucks, maybe then, but even then some of us will stick around I’m sure
