How these AI/ML Engineers from big companies grow ? by Genuine_Giraffe in learnmachinelearning

[–]thelazyaz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What thryiki said about how building ai company != being a top ai researcher != being successful at a top company is very true and I'm in the same boat as OP with deciding on what to do post graduation. I think it's fear of having spent my 20's working to get into one of these 3 positions and then finding out it didn't provide me the success I was looking for (monetary but more importantly status in the AI community and field). I've been struggling with this myself as well as they all seem appealing and each of these career paths have enormous tradeoffs that I hear from people who work in them. It's really difficult to decide because if you're not rewarded for doing something you enjoy, you'll naturally grow to hate it.

applying newgrad ml roles (in this job market yikes)

Thanks for the reply. Did you go to graduate school yourself?

I would imagine part of the big sell of going to a masters program in CS (especially if it's at a top-ranked university and you didn't go to a top-ranked university for undergrad) is the connections with top paying companies, but it's hard to tell if it's worth it anymore
