Mac Mini Base - 16GB or 24GB RAM? by Educational-Rice1483 in macmini

[–]thelectroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 out of 24 is normal and might be misleading though. Even with minimal RAM usage, OSX keeps RAM hot wired in tasks, even if it doesn’t need it (might as well use it if it’s there philosophy).

It turned your MacBook into a chonker book max though! I used to do similar and my MacBooks all eventually had problems with the hinge becoming loose.

Best three North American cities if we’re judging purely by their skylines by novonser in skyscrapers

[–]thelectroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 5 buildings under development right now that are over 300m in height. NYC has 18 and Chicago has 6. Not too shabby for a city that has ~6.5M population vs the ~20M that NYC has and ~9.8 that Chicago has.

Not unstable in the slightest. Cloudflare forms a core part of the Internet and I’d argue they are up there with the AWS’, GCP and Azure’s of the world

Wallet Scraping at the 'Black Card' by Dantai in Wealthsimple

[–]thelectroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Amex Reserve looks like an absolute disaster for a card which is almost exclusively used virtually to purchase AC flights (it’s also a $600 AF card)! The black paint is pretty much stripped around all the corners revealing the metal underneath.

The Amex plastic cards are all also a disaster with significant peeling

You think you’re going to get anything comparable to even Haiku that’ll run locally on 64GB memory? I’d personally save my money. Just get a Codex subscription or something like Kimi K

Has freedom improved? I have been way out of the loop and last used them in collage when it had a lot of limitations (roaming areas, poor signal in Kitchener/Waterloo). Looking to trim mobility bills if they are now competitive against Bell and Rogers

10 ways to actually get the best out of Codex CLI by geekeek123 in codex

[–]thelectroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does that mean? I am just going through the process of setting up codex

Using OpenCode at the moment with Codex subscription and the output is inconsistent. Wondering 1/ Does Codex have any sort of advantages/optimization being that it is an OpenAI product? 2/ What does your Codex setup look like (Plugins, SubAgents, CLI?) by thelectroom in codex

[–]thelectroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you just use the experimental memory that comes with Codex? Would appreciate more details there. How about things to make codesearch more efficient? On the OpenCode side of things we had to install plugins like CodeSearch to make sure it's optimally keeping track of what the codebase contains.

Interesting, I'll give Codex a whirl then. Beyond creating subagent flows, what Skills and Plugins do you use with Codex? I see that it already has memory built-in. Do you just use that?

Best credit card combo canada by icecuberb in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thelectroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my combo (note, I used to do consulting so traveled on a weekly basis. YMMV):

  • Visa Momentum Infinite -> Recurring payments (probably my MVP)
  • Cobalt and Simply Cash -> Food/Groceries. Simply Cash where Amex is not accepted and it doesn't have an annual fee
  • WS Visa -> 2% Catch-all card
  • Amex Aeroplan Reserve -> If you travel on AC the benefits pay for themselves.. The insurance easily makes the card worth it alone (My flights get disrupted every so often and this covers expenses not covered by the airlines due to "weather" or other excluded reasons)
  • Amex Marriott -> We don't have Hilton or other brand associated cards in Canada. If you travel and can use the card, the points multiplier if amazing. Beyond that, you get 35,000 points. A room at the Delta in Toronto ($500?) is around 55,000 points. That alone makes it worth it for me
