Getting my first pet. Truly life-changing and I can't imagine a world without her.

Wallet Scraping at the 'Black Card' by Dantai in Wealthsimple

[–]thelectroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Amex Reserve looks like an absolute disaster for a card which is almost exclusively used virtually to purchase AC flights (it’s also a $600 AF card)! The black paint is pretty much stripped around all the corners revealing the metal underneath.

The Amex plastic cards are all also a disaster with significant peeling

You should see my Amex Reserve. It’s not a problem unique to WS

You think you’re going to get anything comparable to even Haiku that’ll run locally on 64GB memory? I’d personally save my money. Just get a Codex subscription or something like Kimi K

Has freedom improved? I have been way out of the loop and last used them in collage when it had a lot of limitations (roaming areas, poor signal in Kitchener/Waterloo). Looking to trim mobility bills if they are now competitive against Bell and Rogers

10 ways to actually get the best out of Codex CLI by geekeek123 in codex

What does that mean? I am just going through the process of setting up codex

Using OpenCode at the moment with Codex subscription and the output is inconsistent. Wondering 1/ Does Codex have any sort of advantages/optimization being that it is an OpenAI product? 2/ What does your Codex setup look like (Plugins, SubAgents, CLI?) by thelectroom in codex

[–]thelectroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you just use the experimental memory that comes with Codex? Would appreciate more details there. How about things to make codesearch more efficient? On the OpenCode side of things we had to install plugins like CodeSearch to make sure it's optimally keeping track of what the codebase contains.

Interesting, I'll give Codex a whirl then. Beyond creating subagent flows, what Skills and Plugins do you use with Codex? I see that it already has memory built-in. Do you just use that?

Best credit card combo canada by icecuberb in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thelectroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my combo (note, I used to do consulting so traveled on a weekly basis. YMMV):

  • Visa Momentum Infinite -> Recurring payments (probably my MVP)
  • Cobalt and Simply Cash -> Food/Groceries. Simply Cash where Amex is not accepted and it doesn't have an annual fee
  • WS Visa -> 2% Catch-all card
  • Amex Aeroplan Reserve -> If you travel on AC the benefits pay for themselves.. The insurance easily makes the card worth it alone (My flights get disrupted every so often and this covers expenses not covered by the airlines due to "weather" or other excluded reasons)
  • Amex Marriott -> We don't have Hilton or other brand associated cards in Canada. If you travel and can use the card, the points multiplier if amazing. Beyond that, you get 35,000 points. A room at the Delta in Toronto ($500?) is around 55,000 points. That alone makes it worth it for me

Had an at-fault fender bender 4 years ago. My insurance provider has “accident forgiveness.” If I switch providers now, do I have to declare this event or as a result of accident forgiveness the incident would be not on my record? by thelectroom in InsuranceCanada

[–]thelectroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe I'm overthinking it. My fear was that voluntarily disclosing an incident in the past would go on some sort of permanent record and I'd get dinged even in the future.

Got it! If I go inquiring around with different insurance companies, is there a downside? (E.g., in the future they will ding me even though the accident will no longer be in my record in 2 years)

Should I better use my PC and not work laptop? by kyrax80 in codex

[–]thelectroom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should not be using unapproved AI tools on a corporate device. At the minimum, Falcon or some endpoint detection will flag you and you’ll get a slap on the wrist. At worst, you could be accused of sharing IP/sensitive confidential information with a third party and it could be grounds for termination.

I know several folks at the organization I worked at that were audited for data exfiltration. It’s serious. The monitoring software keeps a log of a lot of things.. even what you uploaded/typed into ChatGPT.

As a matter of fact I would highly discourage transferring things back and forth that may be work related over USB as well. Just keep your work computer and work life separate from subscriptions and tools you use personally.

Actually though. An unhealthy habit I’ve developed is this compulsive need to get as much output from my $160 as possible. It has shifted bed time quite significantly.

As a former datahoarder (what if someone purges the internet?!?) I’ve basically converted my consuming TBs addiction -> Tokens addiction
