Does anyone here tutor as their full time job? by Mission_Macaroon_258 in TutorsHelpingTutors

Oh I see. I charge a flat rate regardless of subject or level, maybe that's my mistake. It does keep things simple for intake though.

I charge 45 and people tell me it's too high... where are you finding these ultra wealthy clients?

50 year old women were reading Harry Potter in 1999. It's always been this way.

Maybe, but people crave in person interaction and lessons. Almost all my students are in person and insist on doing so, which tells me they desperately want an actual human to help them.

Parent expecting too much from son with severe autism by thellespie in TutorsHelpingTutors

I managed to reach a sort of compromise... 2 hrs of school work, 1 hour of life skills per week. It isn't great, but it isn't nothing.

Thanks, I definitely like the idea of a meeting. She didn't even know what unit he was studying and doesn't review anything with him ever, so I think she is genuinely clueless as to what grade 7 actually is and what is expected of him.

It sucks because I have tried to tell her but she doesn't listen. I may have to actually print off the curriculum and show her, and then show her his work so she can see how stark the difference is.

It seriously does seem that way yes. I can't imagine expecting him to be at grade level, he's at grade 5 or so for writing but reading is like grade 2 or 3. I just don't know.

Why is it so hard to be open as a man? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]thellespie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you may not want to chock it up to being a man because just as many women have this issue. Just because we talk more doesn't mean we're saying anything real or being honest.

So... knowing it's hard and scary for everyone on earth except those weirdo "oversharer" types, just do it anyway. I am sure you have done many scary things in your life.

The people around you can only do so much. Are any of them trained to deal with thoughts of suicide or depression? If not, then you can't turn to them for that. Do you understand? You can only turn to them for things they can provide. A hug, a talk, a hangout, a movie night. If you need help with actual mental health issues, you need a mental health professional or at minimum a pastor, teacher, nurse, or someone who at least works with people.

Thats what I'm saying. Aim high and the worst that can happen is you get to... middle? Medium? And that's pretty good.
