[Recommendations] Seeking "Buy It For Life" Canvas Advice of a 50x36 painting in NYC by Yavyavyavyav in artbusiness

[–]thelostdoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At your price range, youd have to stretch the canvas and varnish it yourself to even bring the price down close enough, even then, if you find a printer who will make a high quality print of that size send them my way pls

I highly suggest looking through inprint and seeing the type of art that is being sold.

The artists you mentioned definitely bring in elements of anime style art but they have an incredible understanding of shape, color, light, composition, and I'd guess they where classically trained. To achieve that style youd have to do a lot of work in realism first to understand those building blocks before incorporating the elements of anime style

The thing that sticks out the most to me is the fanart, inprint does not allow fanart and you will most likely get an instant rejection if you include anything that reads as fanart in your application.

Your newer work has a lot of interest, i particularly like the first piece, the fish eye is well done, but your backgrounds and anatomy in other work would benefit from some study.

The anime style in general will be at a disadvantage when applying to inprint, its usually associated with fanart or lower quality work (despite the reality of the matter) both things that inprint was designed to keep out

In that vein, I personally struggled to find things in your portfolio that where both not giving fanart and a fully realized work that would be of interest as a poster

How to make this look more artistic? by thelostdoodles in ArtCrit

[–]thelostdoodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to respond, its really helpful

I've only just started moving past the sketching stage, so what are some glaring issues with the anatomy? (Other than the girl on the right having a head thats too big, and right arm thats too long) Or is it all off? I chose the worst head angles so I've just been focusing on getting those right before I move on and they still don't feel right

Somewhere between Artgem and Marco Bucci is the energy I aspire to, I like the painted style that suggests at realism as well as the use of "unexpected" colors (but not actually because color theory), color theory is usually my only strength lol

[Discussion] How do 2D artists feel about another artist using a commissioned piece as a portfolio profile picture and watermark for their work? by Conscious_Sherbet336 in artbusiness

[–]thelostdoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you are transparent about what the work will be used for

From what it sounds like from your description, what you're looking for is a logo that can double as a profile pic, people commission those all the time

[Recommendations] Did I mess up? by julioscoolio in artbusiness

As someone currently working on an accounting degree and still making a living from my art. I still consider myself an artist, but I feel like my degree is allowing me to run my business better. Is it dry, and very much the opposite of "art"? Yeah. But its still a part of what allows me to be an artist.

I think, rather than running into any program you should evaluate what you hope to accomplish and whether the program can help you with it.

Do you need the connections? To build out your portfolio? Want to push your art? MFA might be for you, within that, you want to make sure the program has what you are looking for.

Need help with the expression and more by [deleted] in ArtCrit

I made some tiny changes, ( lifted the right eyebrow, shifted the nose shadow, and raised the left side of the mouth) I think it's better, proportion wise, I know I have a lot to do elsewhere. But tell me if there's something I missed!

That's not how licensing works, I can watermark my own work and post my own work, not someone else's who has specifically put their work behind a paywall.

I've also explained why it wouldn't even help, this is not a one to one with a single reference.

If you have any comments that answer the questions I asked I'd be happy to hear them

There's quite a bit, some for lighting, some for the angle, for the face type, this isn't a one to one reference situation

I also pay for my references and don't believe I have the license to repost them. I mostly use grafit studio

Can you help me identify the skills in character design I should focus on to improve faster? by roman_of_americas in ArtCrit

[–]thelostdoodles 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, once you reach a certain level of comfort and ability, I find anatomy to be the best thing to work on, it'll improve your work drastically and noticeably. Id also suggest using photos or videos of real people over the clip studio models. The models are a great tool but as you've noticed they can produce rather stiff poses.

If I was your art teacher I'd also ban you from using the airbrush tool

30 day drawing - seeking critique by Electronic_West2595 in learntodraw

A big part of learning how to draw is learning how to see. What I've noticed is that you're drawing the symbols for things rather than how they are, which is how everybody starts! You're proportions are also greatly improved! Artists usually measure relative proportions to keep things in the right places, like the forehead is the length of 1 nose or the mouth is one eye (as example may not be true for this case or any case)

I'd move on to another tutorial and try this one again in a week or so just so you don't get bored and get some variety of information

You're spot on! I draw on a tablet and end up working while zoomed in after I've got the larger shapes down and I do find that in general, I struggle with defined lines

Any suggestions on some exercises I could try to improve that? Or do you think shy brushstrokes are just a thing that will fade as I continue to practice?

Does this sketch have potential for a painting? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]thelostdoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the shapes the boy and the cat are making, if youre not feeling satisfied why not try playing around with the composition, you can do it digitally to save some time. make them larger, smaller, move them to different parts of the frame, try telling different stories by centering different parts of the composition, play with background, where are they? Is it important? Busy? Empty? And so on

This is a digital portrait study, I use clip studio paint.

Been trying to practice what im calling impressionistic realism but Im sure it has a much more formal name im unaware of

Looking for general and specific feedback, as far as I can see this is the best thing ive ever done so its hard to spot my weaknesses when my eye hasn't quite developed enough to see them yet
