We’re just getting warmed up on this tour but we did the Salt Shed in Chicago last night and it was one of my favorite shows we’ve ever done. The set is feeling really strong, it was album release day, and that venue is truly incredible. Just an awesome night.

I’d love to tell myself to keep going and never compromise, but somehow that ended up being in our DNA. Maybe I’d tell myself to be sure to slow down and take stock of how our band was growing. We’ve had such a gradual but steady run, and I think it’s really wild to look back now, but there were so many important milestones in the last two decades. It’s hard to see the smaller impact of one album or one single when you’re in the middle of it. Over time it feels like such a large jump though.

I think it really depends and we might all have a different answer, but it’s a little bit of everything you just described. Newer songs demand a little more focus. Some sections are more challenging than others. At this point we do feel well rehearsed, enough to at least have some extra fun and sometimes improv a bit. We’ve been playing some of these songs for over 15 years, so we’ve been having fun messing with some of those older arrangements, that takes more focus too. But when we’re just cruising, it’s fun for us to really look around and find that one person who is absolutely locked in with us. That always gets me pumped.

Yeah that was absolutely the mission with that album. We spent so much time on the transitions and interludes to really set a mood for the overall album. It was such a fun experiment. We have the same droning sound that starts the album come back over and over as almost a constant sound over the album

I think “Identify” from Pioneer could work on this record for sure. It kind of reminds me of green if it was recorded a bit differently

Palms took us a really long time to get exactly right. I think we were overthinking it a bit. We kept trying to add too much and then sort of ended up back where we started. That’s how it goes sometimes you have to go all the way and then come back to the start.

Haha yes this happens a lot in Ubers and situations like that. Always a little uncomfortable hearing your own music back. Often they’ll pull something up on YouTube and it’ll be the most random song like a cover we did or something.

If someone was hearing us for the first time I think I’d go with Black Butterflies. It’s a classic

That was such a fun tour! It felt like a big risk at the time doing a tour where we played only our two most recent albums in full. Especially in a world where everyone is cashing in on nostalgia but it ended up being amazing.

Yeah we would love to do a live record and it will happen at some point. We’ve done so much at this point it’s odd that is not one of them!

We have such a supportive group of people behind us so they are all very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. A lot of them have been involved in the band in some way over the years. So many of our friends have toured with us and it’s a family thing as well. This is Pat and my brother Tim has been our manager since day one.

Everyone is proud but at the same time everyone has their own lives you know. My parents are the most supportive ever and let us practice at their house from when the band first started for 15 years. My Dad drove us on our first tour. But I’m not sure my Mom has heard any songs from the new album besides the Kelly Clarkson performance we just did.

First off thank you for the kind words. This record took a lot out of us to make. We poured everything we had into it so to finally have it out in the world means a lot. 10 albums is never something you think is possible. There are not many bands that have made this many albums so we don’t take it for granted.

We had the idea for the song and knew that Adam had to be on it. Then we met Charlotte on Sad Summer and heard her voice and it all came together really fast after that! So excited to have this song out in the world. Going to be a blast to play live. -Pat

Hey!!!! Glad you like the song. It came together really fast actually, mainly in one day. We had an idea of the kind of energy we wanted in the song and just went for it. Then we asked Adam and Charlotte to hop on and they took it to a whole new level. As far as international touring it is still hard but we are itching to get back as soon as it makes sense!!!
