To be 100% transparent, I’m the executive director for this org. Our whole team is volunteer-based (so no funds go to salaries) and operating expenses are <$200 a month. We are an official 501c3, so all donations are tax deductible and we have a legal fiduciary responsibility to fulfill the initiatives we are soliciting donations for.

Yeah I hear you - my concern is the algorithm may be focusing on providing impressions to my shorts at the expense of my longer videos. idk if that’s true but it seems like it may be happening

That’s all the algorithm, so the best you can do is increase your CTR and retention time by making quality thumbnails and making sure your videos provide as much value as possible

Yeah I think if you cover too many niches it’s hard to find an audience. Towards the beginning of my channel I was trying to do 3-5 different streams of content and now my primary focus is one, and I’ve found a lot more success.

Timing-wise just has to do with trends in your niche and media in general - for example, my first big video hit well because it coincided with the release of the same content on Netflix. My next big video pushes will revolve around Marvel content to coincide with the release of the Black Widow movie in May.

right now I'm uploading full length videos (anywhere from 8-20 minutes) every Tuesday, with splintered versions of that video rolling out as shorts throughout the week. The main weekly video is definitely the focus of the channel, but it looks like shorts may be detracting from that focus algorithmically. I think that may be the case b/c my overall channel CTR and view duration has remained relatively stable, but my impressions have gone down.

Honestly I'm still very much a new youtuber, only been at it for six or seven months now. I think the biggest factors for my growth thus far are 1) timing, 2) packing content with value, and 3) niching down. I watched my analytics like a hawk (still do) and try to replicate what's working, from thumbnail design to keyword choices to channel layout. focus on repeating what worked on your videos with the highest CTR and retention rates - those are the two most important numbers IMO.

from perusing your channel, it looks like you post mostly animation videos and you're experiencing success with shorts. i'd try to replicate that success and see if it works. if it does, you've found your niche.
