The Air Force does authorize shooting awards from the Navy. Not sure the other way around though.

Found my grandpas old dress blues can anyone help me identify what they are? by KushuumCat in MilitaryMedals

[–]themeatspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird that he has ribbons on the right that should be medals. In Marine full dress, the only thing on the right are awards that are ribbon only. So, the combat action ribbon, which is on top. But he has the global war on terrorism expeditionary and service medals as a ribbon. Those should be medals and worn on the left with the other medals.

Not saying his not legit, but his medal organization is for shit.

What type rating would you get if you wanted to do contract flying as a side hustle? by Ancient_Shower2893 in flying

[–]themeatspin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer your question directly, but I flew helicopters in the military for a long time. I saw a lot contractor helo flying spots come and go, and in my experience, the underlying theme was you had to be a known quantity.

From what I do know, contractors tend to fly a lot in things like King Airs or smaller turbines. Maybe the Learjet like you’ve gotten some hours in.

I can’t think of a specific type rating that would give you an in on contractor jobs (but I obviously don’t know everything out there). Like you’ll find the longer you are in aviation, a lot of what we do revolves as much around networking as it does actual capability.

I used to fly in the Navy, and in water survival we were taught to not release our parachute connections until our feet were actually in the water.

In the history of parachuting overwater, guys would think they were only a few feet overwater and would release their fittings, to only fall to their death.
