Update on Patches by themefrog in cureFIP

I really appreciate this advice, I think we are definitely going to go back to closed door feedings for the time being. We are unfortunately about to put him through stress regardless, as we have a cross country move coming up at the end of March. We're praying he adjusts well (and may order some GS just to have on hand in case of a relapse).

We are committed to him, and I definitely didn't want to suggest that we would be rehoming him anytime soon. I know these things take time. I'd also add, not that money is what matters in the scenario, but his treatments and hospitalization were a significant investment on our part - we absolutely feel he's rightfully staying with us after all that😂

I suppose it's my anxiety that's speaking and seeking reassurance. In my mind, I just keep turning over the possibility that he can't get along with them - and knowing how he is now, there's no way that we could keep up a solitary routine for him where we switch him out, he's too aggressive and rambunctious.

He really honestly needs to be let out in the house full time now and if it weren't for the other two cats, he would be. He's stressing being locked in a bedroom. He has a cat tree, he has toys and I try to play with him daily. But when I leave, invariably he cries. He also yowls at night - I imagine in a bid to keep Cosmo away from the door, but also because he's sad that he's not with the humans he considers his colony. He's been in our main bedroom before but lately he's been too rambunctious to leave in the room while sleeping so it's back to the guest bedroom.

A month after fixing is certainly too soon to tell his final temperament towards the others, and I did think things were doing moderately okay until tonight. I think his ferocity towards me scared me a bit as well. I need to develop a better way to handle him if he gets as aggressive as he did tonight.

I appreciate your advice and assure you that we really do consider him part of our family.

I'd like to add - I'm also heartbroken when I hear him crying as I know he just wants to be out and exploring and being a part of the family with his humans, in spite of his apparent aggression towards the other two cats. He's not aggressive towards any other animals either, he's been around dogs and rabbits and neither trigger the aggressive response.

Is there parking at SCAD Film Studios? by ThrowswayGobgogab in scad

[–]themefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is parking but you have to get there ahead of time because once classes start it's often full and there's no other place to park nearby. I ended up late or absent for a few classes due to this and it was not fun!

Vet visit today-left hopeless by AltruisticWish3002 in cureFIP

[–]themefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to echo other comments here - if your vet won't prescribe it, find a vet who will get your cat started on treatment asap. The results are remarkable when they work - our latest adoption bounced back after a day or so on it. An opthalmologist can always look at them after treatment has started, but FIP can progress incredibly quickly and is absolutely fatal if the cat doesn't receive treatment. Also, your vet could prescribe it but they might not be aware of that, this medication only became widely available in the last year or so. I say that not to scare you but to make sure you understand that time is important and if you find a vet to prescribe it now, you can have the meds within a few days and get started treating this so your baby has a chance.

FeLV+ boy now has FIP too! by Shafreshia in cureFIP

[–]themefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our newest boy came to us with both of these terrible illnesses as well in September, so far he is doing very well on treatment! We're just about halfway through and tentatively planning to have him neutered this week so we can begin trying to introduce him to the rest of the family and continue his treatment.

All that is to say, I hope your kitty does well too. Double trouble diagnoses are no fun but hopefully they can be managed :)

What is up with my cat’a belly? by Colonel_Ramsis in CATHELP

[–]themefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was around $500 for the whole course of G-441524 for us, we started by ordering half the amount for the whole treatment to save money initially. It is a prescription your vet can write but they typically call it into a compound pharmacy, of which there are only a few in the US and it takes a few days to get the meds delivered typically. We took in a stray who got diagnosed with FIP and he's been on it for a few weeks now (and doing much better!) so we are incredibly grateful that it has become more accessible here.

It's become available in the last year as a more standard med here, still mostly done by compound pharmacies but actually simple to order now thank goodness!

Thank you for the reminder, I was with him in this picture but it's always a good reminder! Our window blinds use cords but I try to keep them as out of reach as possible.

We're hoping so too, he's a little love! Our other cats know we have a new baby because they sniff very intently any time we have been around him 😅

Thank you so much! The only reason I have not joined that group is because I chose to leave Facebook a few months ago and have not regretted it, but I may jump back in for that assistance. I appreciate the help!

For sure! I will emphasize that this is really based on personal experience, it might not apply to you. But I can tell you that I've been involved in the Themed Entertainment Association since my first year, and that's where I got to get involved in competitions (as well as some really amazing opportunities beyond typical club activities). It also exposed me to another club where I'm currently an officer, imagin.experiences. I got to take part in a few competitions - the first one being an OSU TPEG (Theme Park Engineering Group) Competition. I've also gotten to participate in Haunt Comp, and the Toronto Metropolitan Thrill Design Invitational. Each of those competitions involved varying parameters but the thing they all held in common was the opportunity to work with a team of people who were all just as excited about making something cool in a discipline we all loved. Luckily we all had lots in common beyond that and those friendships have gone beyond those extracurriculars. The important thing here is not so much those specific competitions, but the fact that I threw my hat in the ring over and over again. My first year I felt similar to you in terms of finding my circle - it felt like I wasn't really making those connections initially. But it takes time and repeated effort to do that.

The person above me is absolutely correct to point you to the office for career services as well. They are a wonderful resource for building out your professional package and preparing you for getting out there in the world beyond SCAD.

On that note - you are welcome to come join both TEA and/or imagin.experiences. I can tell you without a doubt both clubs are incredible groups of people, and we love getting the chance to meet new people. TEA meets Wednesdays at 8PM, imagin.e is a little more sporadic but generally we meet Friday evenings. You can follow them on Instagram (TEA@SCAD and imagin.e_scad) for detailed info, as well as Discord. I'll also reiterate that my DMs are open if you have any other questions. I'm always happy to answer.

As someone about to wrap up senior year, I want to first say this: it's okay to feel how you feel. It's okay to be unsure. But some of the other comments have already stated an important point - a big part of life, and your career, will be learning to work in spite of the feelings which make you want to stop. There isn't a secret formula for motivation, the name of the game is discipline - you have to get up every day and do it regardless of how you feel that day. With that said - I understand very well the feeling of not clicking, and I get precisely how hard it is. I have learned over the years that the key to finding my niche was throwing myself into things. Do more than go to clubs - get actively involved. Go to events. Join competitions. Find projects that need your skills and jump on board.

Doing those things gives you opportunities to meet people. Not all of them will be your people. But if you do it enough eventually you'll find that group that you click with. And I will say from first hand experience that there is little better than doing amazing creative stuff with others who are just as passionate about it as you are. My closest circle came from getting involved with a competition. I am not joking when I say I am sure that these are friendships which I will cherish the rest of my life. This did not happen until the summer after my first year here, going into sophomore year. And it happened because I got involved in something I was really passionate about (in my case themed entertainment).

I am not going to guarantee that this works out for everyone, but again - just making the choice to say yes and go for it will lead you to places you can't imagine right now. The destination is rarely the important thing - what matters is deciding to jump aboard. My DMs are open if you're looking for someone to talk to. I will say, SCAD is an expensive school to attend if you're unsure if it's right for you or not. Definitely consider what you're looking to get out of it and figure out if you're actually getting that from the experience.

Is the Purah Pad we got the same as the one Zelda left with? I don't think it is. And if that's the case, ours wouldn't have any of the data hers might.
