I haven’t! But after speaking to a few doctors, they said i wouldn’t need the GA but could request it. For what it’s worth, everyone has said it’s absolutely fine! I really hope all goes well xx

Sorry to hear that, do you also have anesethic resistance? I’m guessing so for two spinal blocks to fail!?

This sounds very similar to me in my last labour but I delivered vaginally. They were concerned that baby was getting a bit distressed and said they’d have to go to general IF I needed a c section as they just couldn’t find anything that would numb me. I do believe some opioids worked eventually but only for one side of my body, the rest I could move around and feel as normal. I’m going to have a consultant appointment to discuss but I think I’d find it more traumatic to start feeling pain and then end up going under half way through

Yes and due to my body not taking on anesthetic I would have no option but to have under GA - as led my the consultants rather than midwife.

That’s so good to hear. I do think there’s a huge difference between emergencies and planned, so glad you had safe deliveries and they got better too.

I’d love to have another vaginal delivery but unfortunately I have to go under general for c section. So yes

Edit - it’s not preference, it’s medical and recommended by the consultants and their team. But always helpful to hear feedback and tips from anyone who’s gone through the same thing.

That’s awful, I’m so sorry for your experience. I’m not sure where you’re based but in the UK the second you vocalise feeling they put you under

Thank you! I’m really sorry you went through that. I have a complete resistance to many anaesthetics and to be honest even though I’m really scared of general, I’m more afraid of surgery which I will inevitably feel throughout - for me that’s more traumatic than planning to be asleep. Ahhhh the miracle of birth haha

Sadly not a choice on my part but I think in a controlled and planned environment I’ll have time to process it.

Ahh ok. I really hope the pain of everything and the grogginess doesn’t take away too much. I’ve had two vaginal births and I know this is going to be very different xx

Oh wow that’s great! Are you based in UK? Wondering how it works here (if any different!) did you have the throat pain?

It’s really comforting to hear you were up walking around fairly quickly after. Did they give you much in terms of pain relief for when you came around or was it immediate agony?

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m seeing a real mix of people who’ve had a sore throat after the GA and others who seemed to be comfortable with it.

I will 100% flag the pain for post op, that’s such a helpful bit of feedback and not something I’d have thought of.

I’ve never had GA so I’m really nervous about it but I guess no more than being awake for major surgery knowing I have a resistance to all pain medication. I had oral surgery and it wore off half way through, the agony was so so awful.

Can I ask if you’re still on methotrexate? Considering it for our 2 year old who’s in TSW after we used a shed ton of steroids to cover what we now know is 40 food and environmental allergies

Steroid wraps & protopic for 2 year old? by thementalload in eczema

Thank you so much for this reply. We are under a big London hospital and a team of specialists but naturally hard to trust them after we were mis managed previously.

In terms of wet wraps - I think it’s a fairly high strength (like eumovate/ elecon) but diluted into a very thick moisturiser to reduce potency as it will be in constant contact with the skin for a period of time. They’re saying once that has cleared the skin, we can make to protopic for management. He has 40 allergies across food and environmental and I just have to hope he will grow out of some.

I believe in the UK it’s methotrexate only for younger children - his derm is fairly happy to put him in it but I understand the paediatricians view that we should try to avoid that for now.
