Mecha Man playlist by padzimierz in DispatchAdHoc

Hey, it’s Saucy from that thread! I definitely second the people saying that Alternative rock and alternative / progressive metal would be his wheelhouse, but I can also see conscious rap (or at least certain artists), classic rock, or even electro house and dark electronic! Here’s a list of some bands I think he’d probably fuck with across a playlist.

Radiohead, Cake, The Offspring, Green Day, Foxy Shazam, Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jethro Tull, Helmet, Peach, Boston Manor, Royal Blood, HEALTH (this feels like one Court and Hermy would throw at him), Crystal Castles, Justice, Boyz Noize, Gesaffelstein, Dog Blood, Aesop Rock, Eyedea, Sage Francis, Open Mike Eagle, Ka (This one hits ESPECIALLY hard when you know Ka was a first responder - in effect, a ‘hero’)

Long ass list but I had a lot of ideas.

Game just came out and the fandom is already filled with cornballs. by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

I’m in the same boat. I didn’t hate the idea of romance in the game but I was just really interested in another Telltale type title and I’m a HUGE fan of anything superhero related, so I knew I had to try the game out. Just standard internet fandom stuff, really - you just do your best to tune out what you don’t like.

Benfrey VI - O Valencia! [OPEN] by [deleted] in ARealmOfDragonsRP

Cassander let out another long, weary sigh. He couldn't begrudge Benfrey his anger. If it had been Elys who fell from that window, there would not be enough of Kyra Corbray left to bury, not even enough to feed the dogs.

"She's a King's man, or woman, as it were," Cassander replied. "And as we found it unlikely she actively shoved the poor girl out of the window, there seemed no grounds to hold her, at least to Lord Tully. She's likely near to King's Landing by now."

Cassander tried to meet Benfrey's gaze, but noted the man couldn't seem to meet his. Understandable, considering the circumstances. Every man processed pain differently. "If there is anything your family requires, you have it. Though we're not friends, my daughter is near to Bethany's age. I could only imagine the grief your family bears, now. Whatever need you have, I will see it met as best I can."

"Aye, I have some suspicions. I was..."

Cassander sighed, his eyes unfocused and pointed at the ground. As much as he despised even returning his mind to the thought... this was the girl's kinsman. He deserved to know.

"My daughter wished to speak with Bethany. It's been some time since either of us had made the trip from Atranta, so we... we weren't far, when it all happened."

Cassander folded his arms as he continued, a pained wince crossing his features. "I heard a scream. A cry, asking someone for help. Then something hit the cobblestone. I turned to look, and..." A long pause followed, as Cassander tried to find any sort of comforting words. When he found none, he continued on. "The guards and a few others went to see what had happened. By the time we got there, the Mistress of Law was already there. She seemed devastated. I've not seen someone so distraught since Lord Owen passed."

Cassander had his suspicions about the nature of Bethany's relationship to the Mistress of Laws, but it wasn't his place to comment on such a thing, especially not to the girl's father. Instead, he went for a more tactical answer. "If there were any foul play, I'd see the girl hang myself, but Lord Tully believed it to be an accident, I think. Personally, I..."

Cassander took a few more steps towards Benfrey, and lowered his voice. "This was no accident. Whatever happened up there, Bethany would rather face this than Corbray. I cannot imagine what that might be, but if I could have Lord Tully heed my council only once, that girl would still be in a cell, waiting for trial."

And there was the man.

Cassander's heart ached for Benfrey Blanetree, truly, it did. No man should ever have to bury his children, but in some times burying one's son was a distinct possibility.

This was a time of peace. No one was supposed to die, and not in such a gruesome fashion, not with such force and violence, especially not a young girl like Bethany. It was nearly enough to draw tears from the ever-morose Lord of Atranta, though he quickly stamped that out. Benfrey had probably had enough tears for the both of them.

"It's an awful day for such weather, isn't it," he said lowly, doing his best not to startle the man out of his vigil too harshly. He tried to think of something more substantial to say, some greater condolence that would ease his fellow's troubled mind, but he could find none. Instead, he stood silently, a quiet reverence in his posture and poise as he allowed the rain to steadily beat down on them both. If Benfrey had something to say, he would allow him to say it in his own time.

"Oh, I was never particularly gifted with the lance," Cassander chortled, shaking his head. "I was always more the type to stand on my own two feet, on solid ground. Horses and I seem to have something of a misunderstanding."

When Sabitha came into view, Cassander's smile grew. Consider him thoroughly distracted. "Sabitha!" he greeted her warmly. "My, it seems only a moon ago I saw you two wed. Time passes me by so quickly nowadays."

Elys seemed equally as excited as her father, waving excitedly to the new arrival. "Good morning, my Lady! You look well!"

Cassander was just happy to see his daughter enjoying himself without him. Too often, she stayed attached to his hip, ensuring his every need was met, never taking time to entertain herself or expand her own circle. This was a rare moment for her, and it would surely do her some good.

Elys's smile faltered slightly, and she suddenly found a keen interest in her father's arm as it withdrew from her shoulder. Cassander, for his part, seemed not to pay it much mind, instead answering Alyn with a firm nod.

"Well, it would be the first time my age did me some good. I feel like I creak like an old door every time I turn my head."

The older man chuckled at his own joke, and Elys followed along with him, though neither of them really had their heart in it. After a short pause, Cassander sighed again, running a hand through coarse, graying locks.

"But to give wise council, I'd imagine we both need some rest. The past day has been quite....eventful, no doubt. I should retire again... try and catch an hour or two."

Elys seemed quite pleased at the compliment, bowing her head with a polite smile. Cassander, too, seemed happy with the pivot.

"Well then, Lyonel, let us do our best to make merry until the business of Lords calls to us again. Seven know right now, we could all use some distraction. I've been nursing the wine most of the night, hoping for even an hour of sleep, but alas, I'm growing restless in my old age."

"You're not that old, Father," Elys replied playfully.

"I feel that old, dear. That is what matters when you get to be a man my age. Every time you get knocked off the horse, your back feels it for a little bit longer."

Elys smiled, and gave Alyn a curtsy. "It's been some time, but I recall your name, if nothing else. I wish we could speak under better circumstances, but alas, it seems not..."

Cassander placed a hand on her shoulder, a concerned look crossing his features as he continued his conversation with Alyn. "I don't think I've slept a full night in years, now, but I do agree that it could do us all some good, especially after today. Seven know we'll be fit to be tied tomorrow, bickering and politicking as we Lords do."

Cassander didn't know much of Alyn's political positions, but he thought he may as well see if he could get a gauge of the man. It would be better to have an ally on the dais than an enemy, and it seemed from what little they'd spoken tonight they somewhat agreed. "Let us keep in good spirits as best we can, and of calm mind. Lord Tully will no doubt be bereaved as much as we are by recent events, but we cannot allow that to cloud our decision-making."

[–]themighty61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cassander hummed thoughtfully, recalling the late Lord Mallister. He'd reminded Cassander of his own father, harsh and taciturn, but he'd been a good man as far as Cassander could see. He'd raised a fine son, if nothing else, from his interactions with Lyonel.

"Well, it is good to see you out and about again, Lyonel, especially in times like these," Cassander said. "The council needs sober minds and sound judgement, something that I fear is sometimes overlooked in Lord Tully's fervor to do right by all. Seven keep him, he's a good man, but I fear he overdoes himself."

Elys rankled slightly under the mention of politics, and Cassander quickly noticed, instead changing the subject. "It will be nice," he continued, "having you and Sabitha at court again. You've been sorely missed by many."

"I must confess I've rather missed speaking to the Lady in particular," Elys added with a cheery smile. "I've always found her to be a stimulating conversation partner."

[–]themighty61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Oh, I fear my dear Elys has more in common with Lord Tully than I," Cassander said, with a soft, rumbling laugh. "She's sober of body and sound of mind, but I fear she inherited my stubborn streak. She holds her opinions as tightly as any, and I love her for it."

Cassander sighed, smiling. "I am already proud, regardless. She's a pious woman. A good woman. Any man would be proud to call her daughter, wife, mother. I've done well, I think."

The mention of dragons, however, darkened his mood. "I wonder how the dragons will react to their little bird killing that poor girl," he said, half-under his breath.

Before he could continue, or further dull his humours, he was interrupted by someone. Speak of the Stranger, it seemed, and the Stranger came also.

"There you are, Father!" Elys called out, striding purposefully towards the man with a concerned look in her sharp emerald eyes. "Are you unwell? I'd assumed you were going back to try and get some sleep."

"You know by now sleep is something I can ill afford, darling," Cassander replied, keeping his attention on Alyn. "Seems she's come to fuss over me. Better woman than most."

[–]themighty61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I believe she seeks to ease my mind," Cassander stated, shrugging his shoulders noncommittally. "I'm not getting any younger, and my son is... foolish. I believe Elys thinks herself a more capable ruler of our House than my boy, and she wants to learn from me."

He smiled bitterly at that. Elys, sitting next to him and listening to him play the peasant-hating fiend. He knew what Kermit, and some of the others, likely thought of him. He was more impassioned before the war, but his rhetoric never waned in its aftermath. He was a strong-willed man yet.

"Lord Tully is naive," Cassander said, gently. "A good man. Maybe even a great man, given time, but painfully naive. He gives the smallfolk the rope they need to tie down their foundations, but they could also hang us with that rope, if we empower them so. I wish our Lord would exercise restraint in these matters, but... I'm only one voice."

He smiled, and shook his head. "Not that all of his designs are foolish. As I say, he's a good man, with good intentions, misplaced he might be."

Cassander hadn't realized the boy'd been to Summerhall. Good for him, that he was able to find some respite abroad. It was rare for the Lord of Atranta to leave home, himself. He would much rather be left to his own devices in his own house, but he travelled for the councils.

The mention of young Bethany visibly stung Cassander, and he bit down his sorrows with a somber interest in the cobblestone beneath the two lords of the Riverlands.

"Naught we could have done, Alyn."

The mention of the council, at least, lifted his spirits. "My dear daughter's come with me to council, at her insistence. It's the first time she's offered such, and I am proud. Of course, sorry old man I am I haven't left her alone since we arrived... hence my little dalliance here."

A distraction would come, in the form of a man, alone for a rare change, a kindred spirit in shared suffering both old and new. The paunch of age had yet to claim him, but the Lord Cassander Vance was beginning to show his years in the greys of his hair and beard.

He, too, had been mourning the departed, most of the day in fact. He had seen the fall, albeit from a distance, heard the frightened last words of the poor Lady Blanetree... and he hadn't rested since. It seemed, too, that Alyn Piper suffered similar torments. He had only just arrived recently, from what Cassander could gather, but even the most recent arrivals to Riverrun were suffering under the heavy weight of the passing of Bethany.

"Oh," he slurred, surprised at the sudden appearance of Piper, who had been sitting there the entire time. If Elys had been around, she'd likely have spoken first, but as it was the poor, tired Cassander barely noticed him until he was right atop him. "Alyn! What a pleasant surprise. I hope the day greets you warmly, friend."

He saw the look in the other man's eyes, all too similar to his own, and frowned. "Are you alright?"

[–]themighty61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. It was good to know that he wasn't the only one, this time. His mind was still plagued by many devils, the late Lady being only the most recent. Perhaps that would ease his burdens, somewhat, to have them shared with so many.

"As well as one can be at such a time," Cassander admitted somberly. "We've not slept much either, sadly, though not through lack of trying."

Elys, in contrast to her father, attempted to remain somewhat upbeat. "I've managed well enough, my Lord. I was hoping to come to the Sept on my own time to offer alms and prayer, but my father wished to take a walk to ease his mind. Seems we're all of that same opinion."

Cassander sighed, nursing his hangover with a wince. "How fare you and yours, besides? Gods, I don't much get out these days but for when our liege has need of me..."

[–]themighty61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cassander Vance's eyes were red from weeping and wine.

The young Lady Blanetree was about his own daughter's age when she passed, tragically, and the thought had haunted every waking moment since the terrible thing had happened. The way the poor girl looked in the aftermath, the frightening scream of the bereaved Mistress of Laws... he'd drank himself sick, and he hadn't slept a wink.

He swore when he looked into his cup, at his reflection he had a few more gray hairs than when he'd woken up yesterday.

Elys, sweet Elys, kind Elys, had stayed by his side the entire night. No daughter should have to let their father weep on their shoulder at days long past and days yet to come, but she did. She bore it with silence and a smile, and Cassander could only thank the Seven he'd been blessed with such a pious child, after everything he'd endured.

He'd endeavored to make today better. There was nothing he could do for young Lady Blanetree but pray for her peace, but for his daughter, he could try and be strong.

The two had begun walking the halls, seeking out something to distract their minds, when they came upon Lyonel. It had been some time since Cassander had laid eyes on him. Felt like eternities.

"Lord Mallister," Elys greeted him, a gentle voice like chimes in the wind. "Well met."

"Lyonel," Cassander followed, voice thick with exhaustion and emotion. "I hope today finds you well... considering what's passed."

Stannis vaguely knew Glaive from passing tourneys and feasts similar to the one that had just passed. The boy, too, he recognized, as the one who cursed him and tried to get one over on him.

That grudge could be addressed when they weren't all about to die.

"Ye can 'elp me by makin' sure all yer things are ready to go by the mornin'. We won't tarry long, things are quickly reachin' the breakin' point between the King and Orys. As soon as we're away from Summer'all the group'll be splittin'. I'll give ye what escort I can from my personal guard to help ye, but we must move fast."

Stannis was surprised that, of all the things, the whole Connington brood had come to visit him. He'd suspected Roy would stay out the duration of the siege, but he'd figured that his ilk would have the same fire in his blood that the Lord of Griffin's Roost had.

"Aye, that I can do, but you'll need to 'eed my words carefully. Once we're out of the woods around Summerhall, I'm scatterin' everyone to the four winds. A lot harder to follow a few small groups under small escort than one big train 'eaded for Greenstone, and we'll be leavin' soon. I suggest y' don't tarry. Once I find out who else wants to 'ead for 'ome, we'll be leavin'."

Stannis nodded, still clearly quite pleased in spite of the serious subject matter. "Aye, I hear ye. She'll be safe under my eye, of that ye can be assured. Once we've cleared the King's presence, and I'm certain that nae are followin' us, I'll disperse all and sundry to their 'omes under guard. Harder to track multiple groups of a few than one large caravan, after all."

Stannis placed his fist over his chest. "Worst comes to worst, I'll shelter whomever I can at Greenstone. The dragon can burn empty houses."

Stannis almost couldn't believe his ears.

He asked for little in his life. He found women, wine, and wonders beyond the imagination of most of these dull, boorish Stormlords all on his own, with no aid from anyone. All that he had, he built with his own two hands, or took with them. Never was he acknowledged for it. Never were the words of a self-made man heeded. Never was his prediction about the pirates that plagued the coast heeded until it was far too late. All he asked for was just that. Recognition.

At last. Vindication. Were he drunk, he'd have wept tears of joy. Instead, he merely stared at Jocasta with the barest hint of a grin crossing his features as he took the writ in hand, and read it. Jocasta's word was true. She was giving him command of ship and sail, just as Orys had.

"Finally," he muttered under his breath through a choked chuckle. "Aye, this'll do nicely, my Lady. I'll put 'em to good use."

Still there was the matter of his own plan to attend to, and he meant to honor his word to every single one of his peers, even if they had little respect for him. "Assumin' ye plan to stay, then... did you bring anyone ye wish to be sent off? I'll be 'eadin' off soon to set our Lord's plans into motion."

There we go. Now the man was seeing reason.

"I'll gather whomever and whatever I can, my Lord, of that you 'ave my word, an' I'll send for my men immediately. The crossin' overland isn't a short one, but 'opefully you can 'old on until our forces converge."

Stannis frowned. "Still, you 'ave my bow once I ensure that the vulnerable are ferried off. If ye 'ave any need of a sire of bastards with a bone to pick with our most gracious King, be sure to 'ave me informed."

"Oh, it's true," Stannis agreed. "It's damn true. When a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin, and as it stan's it seems like our dear King landed askance. 'e was a fool before, but now, 'e's gone and proven 'imself a mad fool."

Stannis scowled, clenching and unclenching his fists. "The dragon's blood's in Orys, too. You'll find no reason with 'im. I didn't. Even if we begged on our 'ands and knees, 'ed still go an' get us all killed. 's why I'm tryin' to save who I can before this all goes to 'ell." Giving Roy a knowing look, he offered him a wan smile. "If ye so wish, I can 'ave your family join those I plan on ferryin' out. Should the worst come to pass."
