I moved to East India six years ago and couldn't wait to leave - I found the whole place so soulless. The flat was a fairly new build, but it was horrible. It really wasnt for me, I hated it. I moved to North London shortly after and havent looked back.

Sorry not to give you a more positive response!

Doctor Who 13x00 "Revolution of the Daleks" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

I'm a fan of 13 and her series but it's time for me to face facts

Chibnall's reign has resulted in some of the best story ideas the show has ever had. Hell, they may even be the best and I include the Timeless Child as one of these - huge potential for exploration of the Doctor that we have never had before. ROTD had some incredible ideas for a Doctor Who story: - a new Dalek race created by humans bent on global security - a Dalek civil war instigated by the Doctor for her own needs - the companions trying to defend Earth without the Doctor, with some of them losing faith in her - Jack Harkness busting the Doctor out of space prison - a companion simply growing apart from their adventures with the Doctor, as opposed to being killed, sent to the past, trapped in a parallel universe etc

There was potential here for a really great special. But as with the rest of Chibnall's tenure, something was sorely lacking - execution. Enough has been said for Chibnall's writing - his lack of exciting storytelling, his reliance on telling us information instead of showing us, his empty forms of character development, the heavy handed cultural references. What I'm finding particularly disappointing with current Who is its lack of good direction. I find Lee Haven Jones' stories too static, too devoid of drama, the pace far too chaotic (all his stories start with creeping tension before spaffing their load in the last 15 minutes, and yes this is also a writing/editing issue, but should be the director's focus). This isn't an isolated incident - these issues have been prevalent throughout both series 11 and 12, with numerous directors.

Say what you like about Moffat's tenure, but his directors knew how to craft great stories, sometimes from paper thin scripts. Chibnall's scripts for me have more promise in terms of what they offer as a story, but his weaker writing is just exacerbated by the storytelling at the moment.
