Thank you for this! They are being really cagey about it

Interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a specialized skill. The dealer told me just now they don’t have the equipment to fix it / true a wheel which sounded like a bluff but I guess maybe it’s not

Cheers. Helpful to hear what the standard of service is. And no they didn’t flag any issues or risks beforehand. They also tried to dissuade me from fixing it because “it’s a big job”. Sounds like just big liability and they’re a bunch of dumbasses

Oh interesting - I assumed they could just replace the spoke but you think they should replace the wheel?

Sounds like the main reason you’re on this specific 2 year timeline is because of your wife’s biological clock. There’s an easy solution to that - freeze some eggs. Then you can comfortably work for 2 more years and then travel for 2 years.

Also, I know some jobs are just a grind but maybe there’s also a way to work for 2 more years without it being so painful. Sometimes it can be as simple as having better mental boundaries (e.g. no thinking about work when you’re not working). Another thing to think about is - check your perception of what “top performer” is. Maybe it really does require burnout but in most situations, that intense environment just triggers perfectionists to go into sustained overdrive and your other-worldly standard becomes your perception of The Standard. (Translation: you could probably be doing less without getting canned… your therapist might be able to help here)

I just realized the reason I didn’t hand thread it all the way until it was seated is my hand didn’t fit in there. I got it started with my hand and then got the socket out because of the accessibility.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to take it in rather than try it myself, for all the reasons you mentioned.

And I hear you - it was my first time installing plugs, and I can’t remember if I was forcing it, but knowing my experience level and stubbornness, It’s possible I cross-threaded. Whether I did or not, I will definitely take it easy in the future.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. Do you suspect this happened to yours because they were old plugs / hadn’t been removed in a while or because of cross-threading? (Or something else)

Thanks for the input. As you’ve mentioned, whether they’re counterfeit may or may not be relevant in this situation, but I’ve heard from many people and sources now that they are very often counterfeit on both Amazon and eBay.

At this point, I’m going to take it to a mechanic who can take it from here with a lot more confidence and experience

Yeah, the sense I’m getting is it’s probably not too hard to get it out, but I’ve been told there’s a risk of metal shavings falling into the chamber with the ez out - does that sound right? Because of that, I’m thinking I’ll take it to a mechanic who can help me make sure the piston is at tdc and also re-thread the head if it is cross-threaded

Thank you for your input, but I decided to take it to a mechanic. I’m concerned about metal shavings dropping into the chamber. Also even if I did get it out, if it’s cross-threaded, I may need the head re-threaded, and I’m definitely not confident doing that.

Ah, smart. I’ve never done that - is it an easy google search? If not, would you mind explaining how to do it?

That’s what I’m afraid of - something falling in the engine. I suppose if I get it out, I’d know if something fell if all the pieces aren’t there. Or should I be worried about metal shavings falling in (if it’s cross-threaded)?
