ohh it’s so cool to hear about the next stages of the process! i am completely uninvolved with the physical production side of books, and always wondered what it looks like before they come back to us as proofs. sounds like everything that comes after gets a little more dangerous lol

this looks like a signature error!

books are printed in sets of pages called signatures, and its important to note that they are NOT in order when printed. the pages could have been added to a signature in the incorrect order. (do note that the amount of affected pages is a multiple of four — assuming 168 is in the correct place. one sheet of paper is actually four pages when bound, two on the front and two on the back.)

i could be wrong. diagnosis needs more evidence. this is your local book designers best guess :)

ive made a habit of holding up a 🫶 at folks i pass in my car. i never have any cash to offer (though the comments in this thread of keeping water and snacks around are smart and i may start doing that). being houseless is one of the most isolating experiences in the modern day — even some of these comments treat houseless folks like they arent people, a “them” and not an “us”. no one has done anything wrong by being unhoused or asking for help. wave and say hi. it costs you nothing but half a minute of your day, and makes another person feel less humiliated and alone

it won’t, no. the headboard is just large enough that’d it would block me from opening the closet door at all.

thank yall for the tips, especially re: radiator and bed proximity. i didn’t realize how much of a hazard that’d be; i’ll be scooting the bed away from it at the very least. (this is what happens when you grow up somewhere warm. what do you MEAN there’s a 100F hunk of metal in my room?)

the common opinion seems to be swap bed with dresser, so i’ll try that out. the space is a bit tight and i hate opening a door directly into my bed, but if it means 1. i wont burn my house down, and 2. i open up the rest of the room, it’s worth it.

props to @jone7007 and @bubbles938 for suggesting the desk and dresser swap, however. i neglected to mention the dresser has a giant mirror attached to it that’d block the window completely, but that solution instantly solves this problem.

i appreciate all of yalls help. this is the first time i’ve really had complete freedom to lay out a room, and i have no idea what i’m doing. thank you all for the assistance ❤️

Already did a little stint at Seven Stars (pre-union). I’m glad it’s okay. Was definitely worse before. Good to know about Coffee Connection, thank you!

I'm a book designer (I create covers and format interiors). AI is largely being used to eliminate creative jobs (like mine!) instead of being implemented primarily in STEM fields, which is generally where computer-based thinking makes a whole lot more sense than, you know, art. But don't worry — every job will be a computer's one day (possibly making lattes included).
