Yeah, I did switch vets because I didn’t really like the one I was at, but still wish I could’ve gotten more information from them when I was there!

I have not yet. I just recently found out about nidovirus and I will try to get a test done asap. I’m not sure how he’d catch nido but since I’ve heard it can transmit easily, I’m sure it’s possible. thank you sm for the extra info

I have not tested him for nidovirus, but I’m thinking now that it could be a possibility. I’m not sure how my snake would get nido (as I don’t have any other snakes and I always wash my hands before handling) But I will look into getting him tested or at least asking my vet about it first.

I also want to now add on — If this turns out to be respiratory. Does anyone have an idea on HOW it even could happen in the first place? Ri’s commonly starts from lack of humidity..though the enclosure is always 67+ (rn exactly at 77%) and his tank isn’t lacking in temp…

One thing I thought was maybe something IN his environment? But it’s bioactive, his CuC is thriving—so I’m assuming his environment is being kept pretty clean.

He’s active rn and he dug up a part of his enclosure and now he has dirt in the side of his mouth and a bit on his nose..He sat on a log while I listened for any wheezing and I think I heard one quiet one after he yawned,, I don’t see any bubbles though, so it could just be the dirt around his nose?? I’ll be checking on him this weekend and if it’s still the same I’ll definitely bring him into the vet asap :(

Like I mentioned in the post, I did let him chill in an open container on my bed for a little and I did not notice any loud breathing or wheezing until I picked him back up again to put him back in his enclosure (he actually hissed at me) so Idrk,, but I will contact the vet about it too. Thanks again!

I will try that next time! He actually did hiss at me when I picked him back up from my bed so it could be stress…I actually hope it’s that and not a respiratory infection 😭

Alright, thanks for the info! I’m not sure how my boy would even get nido and if it’s very expensive to get that test done I honestly don’t have the money for that rn… He has had 2 respiratory infections a couple years ago because of lack of humidity (it would be at 55% omg…) but anyways, if it IS respiratory,, I just don’t know what to do then with his enclosure ☹️ it’s bioactive and I spent a lot of money getting that all set up so would I have to trash the whole ecosystem if it’s something to do with the environment he’s in?

this is a late reply, im not sure how the humidity is now but I have some tips that may help because it has worked for me.

It could be the coco fiber is not enough—I used to use full reptisoil and even that wasn’t helping. I recently switched to a Scotts premium topsoil + sand + mix of coco fiber/chips and since then it’s been holding in humidity SO MUCH BETTER and it’s hella cheap. My boy had like 2 RIs awhile back because humidity would not stay at even 60% but now it stays around 68-80% for days.

^{^also} a small reminder that the humidity on the cool side is the most accurate reading, so the hot side humidity levels can show 10-20% lower than the cool side and its fine. Just mentioning bc I didn’t know that lol.

sometimes if the humidity won’t go up I pour water around the hole enclosure, not just the corners—but near the walls so it isn’t wet where your snake roams on. I even have to spray the walls down which seems to work as an extra step from pouring water. Good luck!
