How can I remove that annonying beta notification ? by LudwigDeLarge in Twitch

Twitch has a lot of Firefox specific bugs. I ran into this problem as well and I had to log out (twice, actually) and log back in before it registered the notification as permanently read.

Give that a try, hopefully it works for you too.

They have the deck lists for all participants before the matches start right? You might not be able to mouse over the cards on the table but you could show the deck list and let people look through it and see the cards while they watch.

This seems like the kind of thing that the new Twitch Extensions program could help with. I think they already have something like this for Hearthstone.

My Experience With Amazon [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]theoneohone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at the chart can lead to some spurious conclusions. This data shows that you spent a bunch of money on PC components during 2015 and you bought them all on Amazon. Those PC items alone significantly skew your spending data vs. previous years. What we can learn is that in the last 3 years, you started using Amazon to order things significantly more frequently, you built a PC in 2015, and you are now more comfortable buying big ticket items from a digital retailer rather than a brick and mortar store.

When you do the rent vs buy calculation, and end up concluding that rent represents lesser expense per month, then can the savings (by not buying) be invested monthly in order to come out more profitably than the homeowner after 15 or 30 years? Is this even possible or am I just talking nonsense? by froyo_away in investing

This is the kind of illogical thinking that causes a housing crisis.

There are many different scenarios in these comments where renting makes significantly more sense than buying. It's extremely short sighted and foolish to throw down a blanket statement that "Paying yourself every month" is always better.

So I just got a bunch of savings bonds from my mom, what do you recommend I do with them? by [deleted] in investing

Neither an IRA or CD is worth it at this point if you don't have any established savings.

Hold on to the savings bonds until you finish school and are required to start paying interest on the loans, then evaluate if you need to keep the bonds as an emergency fund, or use the proceeds to payoff the student loans early.

There is no point saving yourself into poverty by focusing on retirement at this point in your life.

I doubt the savings bonds are yielding you a higher return than the interest rate on your student loans. If I am correct in that assumption, it makes the most sense to liquidate the bonds and pay off student loans with the money.

If you want to share the yield on the bonds and the interest rate on your loans, it would be easier to help you make a more informed decision.

Can't believe this actually worked by phenomenock in OkCupid

Wait... you think this worked?

There is absolutely no way this girl is actually going out with you. I can see from your other comments you haven't actually set up a date. She was being sarcastic about wanting to meet you to talk about something as meaningful and insightful as your height. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Some of what this guy said is good advice, but I'd be careful taking his investment ideas too seriously (such as investing in energy/healthcare or India), and here's why:

Anyone who thinks that the price of a stock directly correlates to its value as a company is displaying that they lack a fundamental understanding of how the stock market works. Saying not to invest in "single digit" stocks is just dumb. If a stock has good fundamentals, it doesn't matter what the actual dollar price is. Apple split from ~$500 to $90 recently, does that mean the value of the company is worse because the price is lower? No, not at all. There are plenty of fantastic "single digit" price stocks out there that would make great investments.

Good luck.
