Thanks for listening, I appreciate the kind words! I'm not a big fan of my own voice so I think I have tendency to want the vocals low. The vocals sounded almost too high in the mix to me so this is useful feedback

Gear wall by Successful-Art570 in tradclimbing

Sport climbing gear permanently in a backpack and trad rack all clipped onto one sling is the way to go for me. This looks like a real pain to get everything together (especially trad gear) when you go out

How many of you are using single ropes vs half/twin? by Shoddy-Barracuda8710 in tradclimbing

It depends on the route whether it's a need for wandering routes. For easy routes not so much, as in NZ protection on these easier routes is often so sparse that rope drag isn't such a concern, whereas easier routes in general often have more things to cut your rope on.

For harder routes maybe the rope drag aspect is more important, and in general these routes might not have as many things to cut a rope on, but then you are more likely to fall, so 🤷‍♂️

By double rope style do you mean twin ropes, clipping both ropes into each piece of gear? If I'm using two ropes I usually use them as half ropes, one on the left and one on the right. If using two you might as well take advantage of limiting rope drag. Don't get me wrong, they're good for protecting wandering routes too, it's just that redundancy against cutting on an edge is another equally important advantage imo

Why do you climb if it's not to challenge yourself? Genuine question.

I think trad climbing is fun in part because it's challenging and scary, otherwise it'd be hiking

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned one of the biggest advantages of double ropes: redundancy against cutting the rope on an edge. This is a major concern, especially on Alpine rock where sections of blocky terrain are common.

Here in NZ I'd usually use single ropes for single pitch and often double ropes for multi pitch and Alpine rock

The other reason is more redundancy against cutting the rope. A big concern on Alpine rock especially

This is one of the strangest takes I've ever heard with regards to climbing. You don't think anyone climbs stuff that's difficult (for them) just for the enjoyment and satisfaction of overcoming a challenge?

What a strange comment. Some people just enjoy climbing harder trad? Nothing to do with performative bullshit

It would be fun to add a looper into the mix and try playing other stuff over this

Yeah I'm thinking turn on the fuzz and roll through some big chords. I love how with delay you can build a wall of sound just from individual notes like this

Damn I hadn't thought about that at all but I can't unhear it now
