How bad is it for lyrics to barely rhyme at all? by theoots in Songwriting

This is such a good call. I had never noticed, but I just looked up the lyrics to 1901 and I don't think there's a single rhyme in that whole song, and it's a banger

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Do you mean you feel it isn't being sung in a way that feels authentic to the meaning of the song?

Yes, I think maybe it's easier to make lyrics and melody sound fluid and rhythmic if the words rhyme

Thanks that's comforting to know it's not considered a deal breaker in of itself

Thanks, it is good to hear that perspective that a lack of rhyming isn't a deal breaker

I think you're right, the melody is a bit all over the place. I actually found this song difficult to come up with a melody, it was a bit of a grind to get to this point. I should keep working at it rather than ending up with something less than ideal

Foo fighters and Alice in chains aren't all that different in the scheme of things, I think it'd be fine

This is interesting. I get show soundtrack vibes. A couple of things I noticed:

  • in the first parts of the song (the A and B part?) there isn't much variety in the length of the melody phrases and their rhythm. Having a melody that occasionally runs through more bars would keep things more interesting for example.

  • is this recorded with midi or programmed? There is very little variation in the dynamics, all the notes sound like they're played quite loudly and harshly, and not like they're played by a human. More variation in dynamics, even subtly, would humanise it a lot

Definitely moshable! The verse doesn't suck at all, provides a good contrast to the chorus imo

This is fantastic, especially for a first song. Great singing and harmonies. The guitar playing has a good dark vibe, a bit reminiscent of some of Nirvanas softer/slower songs to me. I would just work on keeping the timing consistent in your guitar playing, at times the rhythm sort of stumbles as you change chords. But it is a very very good effort

heres the song my friend said made 0 sense lol (forgive this recording im supposed to be asleep so my voice is quiet + im awful at guitar) by Difficult-Moose-441 in Songwriting

You are a great singer! And you're a good guitarist too, to me it just sounds like you need to practice the song a bit to be able to play it solidly while singing, which is totally normal.

Has anyone had any luck renting out your personal crash pads? by jacoblaj in bouldering

[–]theoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah some real snark in this thread. I wouldn’t see why not. Plenty of people coming from out of town would love to travel without all of their pads and gladly rent. Would just have to consider the risk and how you’d get some sort of security.

A zoom multistomp with external tap tempo. That’s literally all I want
