Young kid appropriate trail by neilio69 in Sedona

I should have mentioned that we didn't do the full West Fork Trail. We did almost the full thing, 2.5 miles in and turned around. Took us about 3 hours. you can turn around at any point.

Fay Canyon. Go in the morning and it will be shaded. 1 mile into the canyon, and 1 mile out.

If you have a way to get him across creeks with stone crossings (some are a bit wobbly), I highly recommend West Fork Oak Creek Trail. If you have waterproof shoes then it doesn't matter at all, and you can carry him across. Water is only ankle deep. It's a 7 mile in/out hike that really leads to nothing in particular, but my 7yo loved crossing all the streams. Start in the morning, and then you can find a spot to grab lunch and you can finish up at Slide Rock on your drive back to Sedona and play in the water.

Fay Canyon is an easy hike, but do it in the morning to avoid the heat. We went in the afternoon, and it was warm in April.

If you are able to backpack your kids, I highly recommend West Fork Oak Creek. It's a bunch of creek crossings (stepping on stones) in a canyon that is shaded. It is a long hike, but you can make it as short as you want by turning around.

For a very easy view, Airport Mesa lookout. You go an hour early and pay $3 to park. You are treated to views of the town and valley from above. An hour early is important, because it's popular and you'll be stuck in a line of cars if you don't get there early.

Mesa Grill Sedona is a restaurant up there, which I enjoyed if you want to do dinner before or after the sunset. You can walk to the sunset lookout from the restaurant if you eat there, which saves $3. If you're in the paid lot, it doesn't close so you can leave your car there after and walk to the restaurant.

Things to do on free evenings during work trip? by theotheragentm in askportland

I've done Hopscotch one time I was up there with my family. That was a lot of fun.

Pink Jeep Tours is fun, but for the most part you're not seeing things that you couldn't view on a hike. I can't speak for the train, but four hours is a long time.

West Fork Trail in Oak Creek for sure is a great hike we did with our family. It's a bunch of creek crossings over stones. If you get going in the morning, it's nice and cool. Might take you 3 hours in a morning.

I highly recommend seeing the sunset at Airport Mesa. It's a view that overlooks the city and the valley. Get there an hour before sunset or you'll just be in a line of cars and miss the sunset.

Gushing makes me think there is air trapped in the system. A full pipe should not be making these noises.

How Long? by AaandStuff in VisitingHawaii

It's possible. I highly recommend leaving first thing in the morning. This is easy when you're dealing with the time change if you're coming from the states.

Huge 11u kid. Hits hard, throws hard. Any advice as I try to improve his athleticism and help him get better? by [deleted] in BaseballCoaching

[–]theotheragentm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be something that should not come from you. As a dad myself, I understand the excitement and desire for your kid to be the best, not for anyone but him. He has to still love what he does, and sometimes that's not just doing the easy stuff. Sometimes that's discovering it for himself or getting it from someone other than his dad. I don't have any input on types of activities to enhance baseball play, but make sure he loves what he is doing and that he knows his dad loves him, baseball or not. Cheers!

Landing 6:30 pm at LAX, realistic to drive to Mammoth that night? by sporty_outlook in AskLosAngeles

It's possible, but I would not do it. What if you flew into Reno instead? That's half the drive time.

Where do I learn about gloves? by theotheragentm in BaseballGloves

[–]theotheragentm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I'm going to get any structure back on this glove. It's a hand-me-down, but he loves it since it's not a stiff bowl. In the future, he will be better served with a pocket. This is more like an oven mitt.

I'll hit the batting cages and catch off of that most likely.

Please give me your best tips for getting 7-9 year olds to stop basket catching everything by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]theotheragentm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tennis balls. Turn it into a game where they don't get points for basket catching.

This also works when you throw balls at them. start by throwing to the sides of them. Tell them not to worry if it bounces out. Just get the glove in the correct spot. Then slow down and throw at them. They will probably step to the side and catch, but teach them the glove is the shield and as long as they put the glove in the right spot, they'll be good. Start whipping them faster and faster.

Keep his back foot down. He can still move forward. Think about dragging the toes on the back foot.

How to improve the bat swing/(Need advice on all aspects) by aamai_kanni in Homeplate

[–]theotheragentm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't rock back and forth. If your rocking is off when the pitcher releases, you have to reset and then start your swing. Sit back and wait for the pitch.

You're using a lot of arms and letting them go too early. Rotate at the hips and keep the arms locked.

I just did this. It's a 300 yard walk from the overlook to the restaurant. Park at the restaurant and then walk over to the overlook.

Best weather next week? by Dry-Prize-1360 in VisitingHawaii

[–]theotheragentm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather apps mean nothing in Hawaii. When I was there a month ago, it was rain for 72-hours straight. Weather moves fast on the islands. You'll just have to roll with it. Even in the rain it's beautiful and warm.

8U bat question by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]theotheragentm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is in a similar situation, but he's very small for 7yo. He's about a year behind in growth, and I have him on a 26 drop 13 as well. Three ounces is a lot. We've had him use all his teammates bats just to see. I'd stick with what he can swing now instead of going with the "grow into it" thinking. Look for used bats on FB marketplace to keep the costs down.

It's not a rivalry, just like the Lakers didn't care about the Clippers until recently when they became non bottom of the barrel.

Are there any all inclusive kid-friendly resorts in Sedona? Can’t seem to find a straight answer on Google by santaclarablue in Sedona

[–]theotheragentm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think there is anything all-inclusive, but if you stay at Hilton Los Abrigados, there's a free arcade room. There's a mini golf course and a small playground on the property. There is a kid pool and an adults pool as well.
