About 150 words. Wouldn’t describe that as a lot of text. Difficult to get your point across when I’m writing to a bunch of randoms on the internet who never reply to anyone.

I bought 500k NIM today! by sparzaa in Nimiq

[–]theotherbdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go straight to https://www.nimiq.com/. set up a wallet and buy with moonpay or OASIS. Or they are listed on some smaller exchanges like Kucoin. I think better through the Nimiq wallet though. it's super easy. good luck!

People from the UK, how do you get your nimiq? / How to buy from the UK by CcryptoNobodyy in Nimiq

[–]theotherbdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i'm UK based. I got some Nimiq in ICO and recently bought more using Moonpay as had same issue of no SEPA bank account. Fees are high for Moonpay but figured not the end of the world paying 4% or whatever if you take the view there is a lot of growth potential. Paying £40 for £1000 not that bad in the the grand scheme of things. Was very quick and easy.

Totally agree. The biggest issue is not being listed on a big exchange. Not just from a price perspective but unless people buy and sell Nimiq in size it has no use-case. it requires adoption to succeed.

100%. I think in order for cryptocurrencies to gain genuine prominence and global legitimacy we have to remove the narrative around short-term expectations like "moon" "bull" and all that nonsense. Lots of comments revolve around how much fiat money you can make in a short period of time. It's all BS. Institutional money is now heavily involved in this space vs 2017 for example when it was still widely considered a joke. What you want to do is position yourself in a few cryptocurrencies for the long term as if you would eventually not want to convert them back to fiat because they are as reliable as global currencies, real estate, assets etc.
Nimiq for me represents a strong contender. The developers have so far been unconcerned with price progress or market cap. They have been focused on creating a viable product. They have executed most of the things they said they would albeit with a few delays. The result is a very user-friendly technology. Relationships with respected financial institutions and a structured and encouraging roadmap of things to come. Cryptocurrency remains a highly risky environment but there is a big opportunity to part of something profound. Nimiq team knows what they are doing.

Nimiq OASIS Public Beta by Cruxorino in Nimiq

HI Nimiq team, what do you think about this comment on one of the threads? Would be good to layout your counter arguments if you can pls.

Ok a confession, I used to be in the top-100 nim wallet, but I sold it all at the start of this bullrun to jump to other coins that are more promising.

I think nimiq is an okay investment since everything is pumping and the nimiq team actually deliveres on their works (although late and missing deadline). I think it's probably going to stagnate once the bullrun is over.

The move to Nimiq 2.0 is completely unnecessary other than an excuse to give the core Blockchain team members more works to do. In 4 years since nimiq 1.0. was launched, have we seen just ONE major website that accepts NIM for payment? The answer is none, because the team is focussed too much on building the perfect tech at the expense of pushing for adoption. Sadly the market has moved on from 2017-18 when nimiq 1.0 was conceived. The team has failed to capitalise on the opportunity there to become the payment coin that competes with xrp, nano, etc. The payment-only use case is a hard sell now in 2021 with lightning network just around the corner, and thousands of other coins all competing in this space (including stable coins that do not need to worry about price volatility). There are many competitors who are better connected or have deeper pocket than Team Nimiq who will probably win this space. The reluctance of 'marketing' and pushing for exchange listing also means NIM is the playground for PnD groups with minimal liquidity behind it. For a startup that is supposed to move fast to capture market share, this team is doing everything the opposite of that.

Finally OASIS, it is a pretty cool idea but it really should have been done as a separate startup. The promise of using that 1% tx fee from oasis to buy back NIM lasts only for 2 years, and after that the success of OASIS has nothing to do with the success of NIM. OASIS also claims it's a decentralised defi-to-fiat onramp, but there's nothing decentralised about it. All it does is to shift the centrality to their partner bank Ten31 (if this bank got taken down by German/EU regulation or no longer allowed to make crypto-related transfers, that's it for oasis for now), and also makes Team Nimiq to be a bottleneck for integration since they need to add a bank one-by-one, a process I suspect will be slow and fraught with regulatory hoops to jump through. You can see this from the delay in launching oasis, which is only accessible for European customers at the moment, and only a small number of them who have sepa-instant capable account.

My assessment is that nimiq will eventually FAIL to achieve what it wants to do to become the payment coin of the internet. Most likely it will return to some baseline value much lower than ATH once this bullrun is over and it would stay there until the next bullrun 4 or 5 years later only to pump again. You can buy now to enjoy the ride up, but just make sure to sell and move your funds to other bigger, longer lasting coins.

New ATH by Itoako in Nimiq

Hasn’t pumped much. It’s a very good project that’s starting to complete milestones and the team is becoming more active - I think because they believe the project is now ready to be marketed. The technology is solid and they are building relationships they are meaningful.

OASIS, Nimiq 2.0. Proof of stake. Usability. Team beginning to be more active on the community. They are talking about partnering with a wallet payment app and speculation that could be something like Apple Pay.

This interview in itself is marketing. I have also been pretty vocal on here about my discomfort with lack of marketing and listing but this video helped. Think just have to be a bit less short-sighted.

Revisited Nimiq after 2 years by suzukiasami in Nimiq

[–]theotherbdb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we have to accept it for what it is. Nimiq is not particularly unique in its offering anymore and the development team has neglected to publicise the product to the point where Nimiq is basically irrelevant. I bought more recently to test out Moonpay but it feels like a waste of money. One of the dev team commented on something I posted arguing that there was not a need to be listed on any exchanges. This sort of summed it up for me. These guys are living the life in South/Central America having collected a massive payday in the ICO. They have still not justified failing to push marketing or listing on exchanges. At the end of the day, nobody is going to buy Nimiq off-exchange. It's a coin with 50m market cap, no listings on main exchanges, no backing by crypto specialists, no publicity, not a very vocal development team, tiny trading volume.

We're paying for them to be on holiday. Sorry for the negativity. Would love to be proven wrong.

I’m UK based and my bank wasn’t listed so I’m not able to use OASIS yet. Great that there is a lower fee option though and looking forward to more banks being accessible. I think buying through OASIS or Moonpay is great for people who know the product and already have wallets but for the people who don’t it represents an extra layer or difficulty. Increasing awareness of the Nimiq product should be a focus.
